It depends on your testosterone level.  What is yours?

FWIW, that doesn't ever happen to me anymore but my T is very low.

Cis women can also get an erect clitoris the same way. It's just not as obvious

As with all things hormone, YMMV. Plus there is the "Sex is between the ears" factor. I was never what you would remotely call a sexual person. Nor sexually aggressive with an SO, which at times could be a problem. A few months after starting on an AA & E I was still able to get erect like I used to, on occasion. After a few years it was DOA.

Yet, lately I do find myself getting aroused more and more often. I suspect a lot is due to a lot more self-acceptance of who and what I am, and..... accepting that I am totally turned on by guys and can't help but to think when I see myself in the mirror and think "I am beautiful and would love to be chased by the right guy". If only......

Oh yeah, my T is in the sub-basement and my E is up where it should be.  I never brought into that Sex takes place between the ears thing. I am rethinking my position  ::)

You stated you've been on estrogen for a year, but what about AA's? After two or three weeks of both I really never get erections unless I really, really get turned on. That means both mentally and physically stimulated. I can go off into one of my little fantasies, like I often do, and there's no reaction.

Yup, with AA and e, I've been on hrt under three months and haven't had an erection in 1.5 months.  I love not having them.  I thought I'd miss it, but nope, not one bit.
you know how far the universe extends outward? i think i go inside just as deep.

10/11/18 - out to the whole world.  100% friends and family support.
11/6/17 - came out to sister, best day of my life
9/5/17 - formal diagnosis and stopping DIY in favor if prescribed HRT
6/18/17 - decided to stop fighting the trans beast, back on DIY.
Too many ups and downs, DIY, purges of self inbetween dates.
Age 10 - suppression and denial began
Age 8 - knew I was different

Similar here, I think it was the AAs that really stopped that stuff for me.

I am another lady who does not miss having an erect penis. Intercourse is not that important to me anymore. Not having an erection is very much gender confirming.

I'm new here but let me tell you my story regarding erections. After my orchi my T went down the drain and erections along with just about anything else sexual. I started HRT and the hot flashes, fuzzy thinking and memory problems went away. However the one thing that bothered me was the loss of upper body strength. It was rather profound, on the order of 50%. I couldn't even open jars or bottle tops. I was never very big, always a bit girlish perhaps (which was good bc I always thought of myself as a girl anyway) but this was tough! I ride a motorcycle (Girls ride motorcycles too you know) but when I started dropping it and not being able to pick it up, I was crushed.

So off to the Doc, He suggested, and we tried, a small amount of T creme every now and again - it did slow the breast growth a bit - but the strength returned to a tolerable level and so did the occasional morning wood. It seems even women need a bit of T. But MORNING WOOD! NO!

I guess your problem is not unique.

Hey Leslie, sort of brought a grin to my face when you mentioned upper body strength and bikes.  I was always fairly light (~165 lbs), but very strong.  I ride a mint old FJ1200 and just about two weeks ago I was just maneuvering by foot and I went to put the kickstand down and for some reason missed and the bike just got over center and I had to gently put it down.  No damage at all, but I couldn't lift the damn thing up to save my soul!  Had to get the backhoe and some straps and used machine muscle.  I've lost at least 50% of what I had, but I don't mind too much because I just figure it's part of my figure re-shaping which is worth more to me.
I can get an erection, but only if conditions are right.  Just this last weekend my wife and I were hot and heavy and she wanted to fool around the old fashioned way and I was having so much fun kissing her that it happened, I guess the between the ears thing just took over and surprised me.  First in a long time and a little uncomfortable for me as my P isn't like it used to be, it's bent from, I think, urethra shrinkage (wants srs).  Still, it was great for US.  Probably more than anyone wanted to know, but it's part of the reality of what is happening to me and perhaps others.  No secrets here.  Toni

I know what you mean! Mine took a new shape as well as shrinking at least 30%. HRT and loss of T does some amazing things.

You shouldn't need upper body strength to pick up a motorcycle. If you google "picking up a fallen motorcycle", you will see women picking up some pretty big bikes. No, I haven't done it but my roommate was into big beamers and she did it wrong. Anyway, look at this link.

This is perfectly natural and reported by many trans-women including myself!
Even when my T is almost nil, I still get the occasional morning surprise and I've been on pharma HRT for over a year.

My erections are no where near as long lasting as they used to be, but it is still possible for me to get aroused by the right person, or if I'm in that kind of mood.

I'd be willing to bet, the different levels of functionality you hear reported by transwomen is a combination of 2 factors.
A: The level of functionality you had before HRT
B: The level of aversion you have to your penis and/or it getting aroused

Also, the majority of anti-androgens prescribed to us, have known side effects that lower both libido and functionality

My best friend is a cis female, and while she's smaller than me by a few inches she can beat me in arm wrestling with no problem! Lol. Well we are a draw, but she can easily pick me up. Her biceps are harder than mine (and I'm not on HRT yet)

So lack of T shouldn't make you that weak. There's plenty of strong women. They just have to workout more.

In my experience strength loss isn't that severe if you actually do some strength exercises.  I've been on HRT for over two years and just a few months ago started strength training again.  My upper body is weaker than before but it is still plenty functionally strong.  My lower body is as strong as it ever was and I'm heavy squatting 230 lbs and deadlifting 295 lbs for reps and I only weigh 165, a lot less than I used to be.  (As an added bonus the lower body work is actually growing my butt where HRT failed.)

I'm 59 years old with less < = 30. I wake every morning with tumescence. It's a sign of good blood flow and will pay off after your surgery by way of better sensitivity and most probably better orgasms.
