Non-binary/androgynous experience with HRT?

Hello! First time poster with a lot of questions built up and I figure it's about time to seek counsel.

My question now is if there are any here who have experience with or know anyone who have gone through a specifically non-binary transition (I suppose that's not really a question). I have been on HRT for about 8 months now. A high dose Estradiol, but no blockers. My doctor and I came to that decision based on the fact that I wanted to end up somewhere androgynous (the goal being to be able to pass as a man or woman depending on the day. Or neither. Asking a lot I know)  but also that I wanted to maintain sexual function, which isn't a deal breaker but it's pretty important to me. So far though, I can't say much at all has changed, almost at all it feels. I have seen many trans gals talking about how incredible the changes are, second puberty and such and I am entirely incapable of relating. I understand that everyone is effected differently, but that doesn't do much to sooth the daily dysphoria. How much of the physical changes are attributed to the blockers in combination with the hormones? Instead of just the hormones? That's the bulk of my question but I would also like to know if anyone has had any experience at all with non-binary transitions. (Oh and yes I have discussed with the doc and am open to going on blockers if things don't change.)

Welcome to Susan's Place. Reports and results seem to vary a bit depending on the person but it appears the the blockers help the most when dealing with dysphoria while estradiol in higher dosage can cause a feeling of well being. I was on what was considered a normal transition dosage before surgery but blockers weren't use. My dysphoria remained up to the day of surgery however after that when my t levels bottomed out, my dysphoria was gone. Some people on the site use a blocker with a low dose of estradiol and that seems to work reasonably well though it can affect sexual function. I am including three additional links you might find useful when considering a non binary transition.

I think you will need some level of testosterone blockers.  But yeah talk to you doctor about it again if you want

It depends on what you want, if you only take androgen blockers or SARMs  (selective androgen receptor modulators) . taking androgen blockers , your body won't be producing nor using androgens  (male dominant hormone) which is responsible for masculinizing , however without androgens being replaced with anything, due to lack of sexual hormones, your body will suffer, your bones will get weak, your skin and hair will get old soon , your immune system will be weak, etc, just look at eunuchs.  taking SARMs will not block the production of androgens, it will just make your cells "blind" and they won't use these hormones, however they are still here and your body won't suffer from sexual hormone lack. There's different dosages for different effects,  you may use these drugs only to stop baldness or your fertility. The less androgens your body use, the more feminine it gets, eventually you can develop small breasts on these drugs but that's rare.

5-alfa-reductase inhibitors can be used to demasculinize in the small degree possible.

Progesterone is also a drug without feminine effects like the above, but it can also be used to demasculinize.

Estrogens,  when added to androgen blockers they have full feminizing effects,  alone they still powerful, but the effects are less and your health can suffer with being on very high doses of hormones without blockers.

Bio-identitical hormones are the safest for your health tough.

And seriously,  talk to your doctor first, don't self medicate.

None of what I have done so far is self medicated. I'll definitely take the information here to my next appointment. My body, it's very masculine, has been always, which im sure you can imagine hasn't been fun. the estrogen now has done very little to combat this. What is the difference in "demasculinizing" and "feminizing"? The goal would to be androgynous with out sacrificing sexual function, but im not opposed to having to lose that for the cause

In my experience you can take blockers at low dosage, evaluating or one day yes and one not depending the half life. In europe we use androcur, that have half life of 48-60 hours. Usually we take it every day, but this cause an important lost of sexual desire. If you low your testosterone without suppress it I think it can be useful for you.
