No actually you aren't out there. To deny one's spirit is to deny one's existence. :)

Choose whatever path you like and attach yourself to the physical world only. IMO that path leads to suffering but it appears that many enjoy being miserable.  8) ??? ::)Bet you didn't read the link, correct?

IMO that path leads to suffering..

And why is suffering wrong? Isn't it a natural part of actually LIVING a life?

Isn't it possible to enjoy ALL of it... the good times, the pain, the laughter, the suffering, the joys... and appreciate one's life as a WHOLE, deep and delicious existence?

Those are some pretty good things to live by.

Now, if I can simply remember to love everyone as the beautiful non-judgmental beings that they are while reading these forums I'll be doing OK  ;)

Melissa,
You can live without any spirituality and
still live a good life, with loving people around you
and making a worthwhile impact on the world at large.
Why would these people do it then if they're not "connected"
the the whole. It makes them feel good and they get something
out of that. Spirituality is a way for human's to find a meaning
to their lives. What if someone finds meaning in life itself, without
needing some external validation! They're life is as
valid as mine or yours.

Sure doesn't work for me.

Science has evidence of a spiritual gene. Not everyone has this gene. You can have a subjective consciousness that is tuned to a well being feeling without believing in a soul or spirit. Much of our reflecting is done with our experiences as a guide. Reason and intellectual thoughts can set a tone for a full life. Enjoying the full range of emotions is part of that. Morals and ethics are part of our living experience. How we view them and the actions we take in life all combine to make the individual. Happy living!

That's statement is an oxymoron as what you describe isspirituality. Like many Westerners, you seem to confuse spirituality with religion.

LOL well of course the judgmental ones are like that because of their own deep-seated insecurities. Of course, I find myself slipping into that kind of behavior all the time. But, unlike the spiritually dead people who don't recognize their own character flaws, at least, I have become sufficiently awakened to realize that I still have these flaws and what causes these flaws.

All this takes a lot of mindfulness and work, it is not easy but the alternative is to walk around unawake and in denial and delusion.

Assuming she is not being sarcastic, shallow or superficial, if she really believes that she is practicing her own spiritual path.

No its not. OK, MELISSA, Good grief.
I don't think you want to get into a semantic and encyclopedia
battle with me. Your dismissive tone is grating and I'm out of here. Be happy Talking to yourself again.

Dismissing is YOUR debating tool and it doesn't work! Bye.

LOL if you can't see that your statement is an oxymoron then you don't understand what spirituality is. You need to check out #5.

Funny that this thread was moved to the spirituality forum where the people who need it the most won't see it.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'spiritual self'. I have both my religion and my self-awareness - my soul.
I am in touch with my soul, my being, my place in the cosmos. Is that what you're referring to? My religion is separate from that.

And to answer the question - NO. Without being attached to one's soul, one's whole being, one cannot live. Period.
One may be breathing, but not truly alive. At this time, I am not longer attached my soul. Pain and sorrow have severed me.
I am breathing, but not living.

I do my best to see judgmental people as speaking from their own insecurities and pain, and to have compassion for them as fellow humans. I think what Chopra said about seeing the worst parts of ourselves in others is quite true. But when someone does significant damage to me and my community, such as the ultra right wing fundies are doing, it's really hard to be compassionate!!  ::)

I read his thing, and some of it was quite good in a new agey kind of way.
But I don't actually understand what the topic title means if anything. Though I think 'spirit' as such does not exist ontologically, I think it is a model used to explain certain values 'n such.
