I just started t about 4 weeks ago, but right around my second shot, I got the worst period I've ever had in my lifetime. Usually, my periods we're light and short. But this one is really heavy and painful. I was wondering if anyone has had the same experience, just because I'm a little worried and discouraged. [emoji28]

Can take months for your period to stop; so no need to worry. Just takes patience :P. 4 weeks is definitely not enough time for your T levels to rise how enough for your periods to stop.
They/them pronouns preferred.

Okay cool, because my doctor had told me I shouldn't get it, and if I did to bring it up. So I was kinda worried. It was the most painful one I've had in my entire lifetime

My periods did get heavier before they got lighter and eventually disappeared. I figure this is because there was more time between them, and therefore more time for tissue to build up.  Some people do get lucky and stop right away, but usually it takes some time for your cycle to shut down.

Congrats on starting T!

I just did my 5th shot yesterday and I've had two periods since starting. Generally speaking, except for some lucky guys, shark week doesn't stop immediately. It's something that happens over time. As powerful as hormones are they don't change things overnight, or in a few weeks, and we're talking about a whole SYSTEM inside your body that needs to be shut down.

I was told that my periods might change before they disappear completely - get heavier, lighter, spotty, etc. Since everybody is different, there is no way to tell WHAT will happen - or WHEN. I'm just happy that my PMS/PMDD stomach issues are pretty much clearing up, slowly but surely.

At this point, i would say focus on working with your doctor to make sure your levels are where they need to be. Your body will take care of everything else with time. Don't be discouraged if things don't happen right away, or when you hope they will. They'll happen.

As a side note: if you think about it, when women are given birth control they are told (depending on what form it is) that their periods will likely stop. Doesn't always happen right away for them, either. It could take a cycle or two (or three.)

Congrats, again! Good luck!

Another thing I forgot to mention; even after you're period stops you're very likely to still get mild period like symptoms (cramps, period pain) randomly. For myself they finally stopped recently but ofc this'll be different for everyone. It's not discussed as much as the periods themselves.

Hey thank you for the thoughtful response! I really appreciate it. I'll definitely keep those things in mind. I suppose I was just worried and kinda sad. That's all. I'm glad everything seems fairly normal though!
