Does Peter fit me as a name?

So I've went by the name Peter after I found out i was FTM which has been about 2 years. Recently I called my mom and asked if she still thinks that's the right name. (I have a couple of years till I can transition and I just like planning my future a bit, I know things may change on what name or what surgery or if I get one or not, but I just like thinking about it) anyways she said she doesn't like it much due to the fact of it... you know, you can use it as another way to call males genitals. So, that's why and I do kinda see and get how it can be awkward and kinda weird. She likes the name Alex better than Peter. I like both and I kinda wish I had the name Alex since I wouldn't be having to change my name when I'm older. Anyways, I'm not sure which one suits me more. I'm a gothic kind of person and my favorite lead singer in a band is named Peter and I love his style and Long black hair (in my profile picture). Anyways I do love both though, which do you think suits me better? (Click on my YouTube icon thing on my profile if you want to see what I look like, I'm not looking for subscribers or likes, It's just a reference of how I look) So, which name do you like better and what's your opinion? I know everyone has their own opinion and I should go based on what I want cause it's a big change when your changing your name, but I just enjoy people's opinions and thoughts.

I think you should pick a name you'd like to hear. People will say your name for the rest of your life.

Good call on involving your mom, assuming you want to keep a relationship with her. Parents are more likely to use a new name they like, and it's a bonding thing to have them choose a name with you. I know several guys who went about things this way, and all seem happy with the results. (That said, your name is extremely personal, and you should pick one you really like, relatives be damned.)

I've literally never heard anyone under the age of 70 use Peter as a synonym for "dick." It's a pretty common name for people my age, and I can't remember anyone being teased for it even during the brutal teasing stage that school-age kids go through. I really don't think you have anything to worry about on that count.

One thing to keep in mind is that Alex is a gender neutral name. If that's what you're going for, great! But if you don't pass well, it's not going to help clue people in as well as a more traditionally masculine name would.

You shoul pick the name you feel fits you. If you love Peter Steele enough to rename yourself after him, then go for it!

After all, your Mom can always call you Pete. ☺

You're going to have to live with having to hear it day in day out; so choose one you're more likely to like and not get tired off. I think it's also important to find a name that suits your personality and gender expression. If you're more masculine choose Peter if you're more androgynous choose Alex. You can always keep one as a middle name.

And I've never heard Peter being another word for penis. Unlike the name Richard which my poor brother is stuck with 😀

I'm guessing it's because you Americans can't quite pronounce words the correct way so Peter comes out 'wrong' 😀

Peter was a biblical name used by many members of the church. Peter the Great was a ruler of Russia. Peter is a great name used through out history and besides that, if somebody has a dirty mind, it's their problem and not yours.

I have had a little experience with this as my fathers given name was Richard but everybody called him by is nick name. He ran a business where he had several truck and his primary work was installing and maintaining septic system. All of his truck had his nick name as part of the company name and I never heard a remark about it.

Naw, its just (yet another crude) nickname for a certain body part. No "mispronounciation" involved. [emoji6]

Still, I think its a cool name, and it has a pretty sweet story behind it. I say "if you like/love it, GO FOR IT!!!"

Anyways, why not Peter Alexander (as a nickname)? You can have both that way. I was going to pick Alexander as a middle name myself, though I chose some fancy weird sounding variation like Alexius because its a middle name so why not

If I was to go by the name of my favorite lead singer in my favorite band, it would be Benjamin (I adore the name, but it isnt my name in the end, I would name a kid or pet that, though).

I chose my first name as kind of a pun on my last name. I get a lot of random people commenting on it and they all love it.

Awesome thank you so much. So many type o negative fans hate that I want to change my name to Peter, because of how much i look up to Peter Steele. You're lucky to get to see them in concert. I never have.

Nothing wrong with naming yourself after someone you admire. I'm going with "Michael" as a middle name, after a hs teacher who had a really positive effect on me.

I'd caution against specifically naming yourself after a living person (regardless of who the person is and whether you personally know them) just because you never know whether they're going to end up doing something horrible and making you sick whenever you think of them and your former admiration for them. Not saying this singer is a bad guy--I've honestly never heard of the band--just that over the course of a lifetime everyone has quite a few people they admire turn out to be secretly horrible.

But if you just like the name Peter regardless and think you'd be happy with your decision even if this guy turned out to be a serial rapist or something, go for it.

Ah. I was confused because he was being referred to in the present tense. Then yeah, obviously, those concerns don't apply to the deceased. Unless they come back as zombies or something.
