(I think it was Dena that said to use FFS forum for non-removal related hair stuff, so posting this here.)

Anyone have experience with those laser growth hats/combs or Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment for dealing with previous hair loss? Some sources say the laser works amazing, but I can't find any data that I particularly trust (it's all easy to fake reviews on Amazon or blogs that receive sponsorships, with nary a scientific study in sight). The PRP question I'm wondering is a bit more trans specific... So apparently, PRP is really hit or miss. Some people see good results, while for others it makes the problem a million times worse. Some things I read seem to place the cause for those who have negative results with DHT concentrations in the blood. Which while a potential issue for the men who normally go in for the procedure, might not be so much of a possibility if one were to, say, be on HRT in order to get rid of that very androgen. :D So yeah, curious if anyone knows anything about this.

I hate feeling so desperate about hair. I've been getting more and more paranoid about my existing hair loss. I seem to be responding well to the minox/finast/nizarol trio with a lot of the fine, wispy growth, but I still don't know if I will ever be able to have the hair I want based on it, and won't really know for another 10 months or so and would hate to be foregoing an option in the meanwhile. I don't even harbor illusions of regrowth becoming full coverage, simply enough coverage of real hair to allow for transplants to be effective. In that vein, I want to do everything humanly possible. Head hair is my absolute #1 source of dysphoria, nothing gets me depressed like thinking about it. (Which really kills me because I know intellectually cis-women face baldness all the time. I've had two family members who were bald from chemo. But doesn't ever really help to tell myself that... *sigh*.)

I have no experience with PRP or laser for hair regrowth.

However, generally speaking, any treatment's effectiveness really depends on the CAUSE of the problem.

Many of us suffer from male pattern baldness. This is caused by Testosterone and Dihydrotestosterone. Get rid of the source or suppress or block these two hormones and the hair loss stops and sometimes regrows a little. PRP will do little for us with MPB.

A dermatologist can properly diagnose your problem. An effective treatment plan can then be suggested and in most cases will be much more effective than blindly using other treatments that may or may not be suitable for your condition.

Many times, once a hair follicle is dead, it cannot be revived. Hair transplants are the most effective treatment for lost hair. Again, if the cause of the hair loss is not stopped, any existing hair follicles, whether transplanted or not, may also be lost.

Yeah, I will need transplants certainly no matter what, right now I'm just more being obsessed with maximizing gain from other sources in order to prepare for transplants (though I believe I have thick hair on the sides so donor sources shouldn't be an issue, I still worry).

I got hit by a combination of male pattern baldness and thin hair on top inherited from my mother (in her 40s in particular it got well beyond norm for female aging issues), the testosterone part I have covered, so it is all about kick starting regrowth. i know that the typical limit for hairs is 2-7 years after loss, and I should be entirely within that window. I also had issues with psoriasis that wasn't killing follicles, but damaging them so I'm also concerned with methods that will help struggling hairs. (That is probably the biggest issue I am thinking of the laser and PRP for.)
