This week, instead of Beauty and Treatments, I will cover some aspects of Thailand and Thai TGs for visiting TGs

Many visiting TGs should understand and not be upset when the Thais misgender you. Their english is based on how they say things in Thai. In the Thai language the is NO Mr or Mrs we are all Khun. There is NO he or she only Kao. Many think that its the same in English. So, its easier to remember Sir when addressing everyone. Madam is long and more difficult. So please dont get upset.

In Thailand the laws protecting LGBT rights are weak and difficult to enforce. But Bangkok has 13 plus million Facebook users and social media is very effective in Thailand for instilling police action and bring to the public attention other prejucided activities. Our TG comunity uses this media to exposed many issues.

Many have asked about IDs. In Thailand you cannot change your IDs at present. Thus even if you look 100pct like a female and had srs, your id still says male. This is one of our issues we hope to change and is looking positive.

Because of no id change we are id'd as the 3rd gender. A description that we feel describes us best and unifies us in seeking ID change and laws to allow marriage and equality at the workplace. Our closest friends tend to be other TGs, guess its the buddy support system and hrt help that is passed amongst peer groups. We have a long history of experience that is passed along.

The government school are sadly very strict in enforcing a male/female dress code and hair according to your legal gender, we are trying to politely request their consideration. Government Universities have change and allow your choice after many years of persuasive discussions. We have found that a bon agressive and more submissive approach achieves our goals. Remember we have the support of the Thai population. Of course Private schools allow your choice.

Also, many choose to work the night life to cater to the tourists. We are the most visited city in the world. Buddhism, the nations religion, does not discriminate in what you work at or look down at you. Like other cis the nightlife provide good income. Dont look down upon those that do this by choice and believe me, they have fun. We in Thailand dont look down on each others choice of work, if it does not hurt others. I also know many Thai TGs who are in film and TV, other working in senior positions in corporates, salesladies and beauty consultants. This still needs improvements and laws may be needed.

Next week I will look at beauty treatments.

I'm curious how many are sucessful in professions? I've heard conflicting reports and don't know what to make of it.

Hi Anony, I am working as a financial advisor for a couple of the wealthiest Thai families in Thailand  I have met a number of other tgs in the course of my work  who are business lawyers, bankers and accountants. They lead normal conservative lives of lawyers, bankers and accountants and live in houses in the suburbs. Unless you do business here you would not normally meet them. There are no real statistics because we are id as males. Guess for the visitor the only tgs they meet are the entertainment group.

I'm having srs in Feb., getting close.  I'm curious about how I will be perceived by the Hotel and staff when I transfer out of the clinic.  All ID will be male.  I'll be pretty much bed ridden for at least the first week from my understanding.  Anything I should do, or shouldn't do, to have a pleasant relationship with the staff, which have been reported to be very nice.  Tips or small gifts when I leave?  I want to leave a good impression and certainly not inadvertently offend.  Would you have some suggestions at some point in your ongoing discussion, please.  This thread is very helpful to those of us who will be spending a good bit of time there, and will likely be back again if experience is good.  Toni

I checked into my service apartment/ hotel as a male and a male id. After my surgery I still had male id and stayed for 3 additional weeks dressed as a female. Not one reaction that made me feel awkard.

Honestly, we just dont look at gender the way you do in the west. Its common to see tgs everywhere and the thai tgs all have male ids.

Hi Dev, Older rich thai men seem to have this facination for tgs. Personally, its too high maintenance to fall in love. But there are so so many cute toyboys for short term fun.  >:-) >:-) >:-)
