HumanBeing

Hey everyone!

Haven't written anything on this forum for agrees but the time has come.

Long story short I've been on t for over 2 years, will be 3 in May. I have gone down the private route and had follows ups although I think my last one was in November 2016.
Dr Curtis is closing down next month. I was due to have a follow up but I've had some unexpected things I need to pay for so can't afford it. I'm on the list for Nottingham Gic and that is going to be at least 1year+ wait.

I've had to put a lot of things on hold and spent a lot of money and I find myself here with 1 box of gel left and no bright future.

I have emailed lorimer but his waiting times have really just not got any better and he's had to hire more staff.

My doctor is useless and told me in order to see if I can get shared care she'd need to have an updated letter from Dr Curtis. She also told me to buy as much gel as possible until she can help. This was a few months back. And when you think one box of gel is 75 to be delivered plus me going to London plus consultation she is really just having me on. On the NHS it's like 9 pounds or something.

I have friends who have had to battle with their gp but things have worked out. So is it just bad luck on my part or what?

Any advice will help!

If you know anyone who can help let me know, I'm not bothered about distance either, I can't afford to have another appointment, I haven't had a blood test in a year and I'm actually just in despair right now.

Thanks!!

I can see your pickle. Can your nhs gp help in any way? Explain the situation and.maybe get some temp t from him? You must have evidance from private route around gd and med.alrrady taken. They might.not want to do it for all the time u need to wait for nottingham but might give you some breathing space if your lucky

Everytime I talk to her she tells me she needs letters.
I asked for the referral and she said she can only do it with a letter from private doctor which makes no sense.
I ask if she can do shared care she tells me to fork out money I don't have because she needs a recent letter to see where I'm at? I can tell her where I'm at haha, she doesn't need a letter for it.

I might have to change gp anyway because I moved recently., my old gp said they might be able to keep me on because I've not moved far but... There is only 1 doctor who will talk to me or anyone about anything trans related and she's not proving to be all that useful.

I might ring up and see if there's anything they can do for me! I pay more than enough in national insurance so I get even more agitated when no one is able to help.

Megan.

Dr Webberley (GenderGP) will often work with GPs to provide HRT care guidance,  the costs are reasonable (though there are some).

You might also want to check out the chemist that Dr Webberley is affiliated with - www.clearchemist.co.uk

For private medication they are often much cheaper than elsewhere - especially for TRT and HRT.  You would need your prescription but it might save you some money if you need to stock up

Your GP sounds useless to be frank. I went to see Dr Curtis in order to get the the approval letter for T once I did I gave this to my GP who then ordered my blood tests and gave me my prescription. I'd be tempted to report your GP for failure of care.

You might find this useful http://transfigurations.org.uk/trans-friendly-doctors/

And prescriptions are now £8.60 :)

Really wouldn't recommend Gender GP, I know she's quick and gets things done but it's not even legit service Nd she's got no gender specialism, neither does her husband who has currently taken over while she's not been allowed to practice. I've also heard that some guys after having gone with webberly and then to a GIC found the process for them to take over your care is longer because they count going to webberly as self medicating. Obviously it's completely your choice and if you need care then contact her practice but she's a complete rip off (£30 a month service charge, 300 odd quid an appointment and you're still paying private prescriptions).

Better options would be contacting gendercare in London or YourGP in Edinburgh and seeing what they can do for you. Still private services but a lot more legitimate and they work with the GICs. I'd also recommend switching GPs to one that will accept shared care, as long as you have all your paperwork from Dr Curtis you should be able to show the GP and ask if they'll accept shared care, take over your bloods and ask if you can be referred to a local endocrinologist that can monitor you.

Megan.

I used GenderGP for a low-dose trial,  and the service to be excellent. I informed the GIC and they had no issue with it,  they are legally not allowed to. Just my own opinion. X

Useless doesn't even cover what she is haha. I need to change doctors anyway as I'm no longer in the area for my old one, haven't got round to doing it yet.

I managed to get blood tests etc but never once did she manage to help me with anything else. I don't get it, gp's need to be more educated on the issue. I don't like being sent around in circles especially when I know it's not necessary.

I've got quite a few trans friends some have had better luck than others. One guy's gp didn't have a clue and was asking for letters and sending lots of letters just to try and understand what was being asked of him.

Well I wanted to use more choice words but they wouldn't be allowed on here  :D. Yeah it's absolutely disgraceful how trans people can be treated by the medical profession in this country; but hey ho.  At least you're getting it sorted now; hope things go more smoothly in future.

The 'FTM Transgender UK only' is a particularly good fb group if you need more support
