Hello everyone! My name is Joni, and I'm beginning my MTF journey at the age of 59. Well, not really beginning,  because I've been on this journey my whole life. I was assigned male at birth and raised as a boy, but I never felt comfortable or at home in the world of men. I always wished I had been born a girl, but back in the 60's and 70's there was no readily available option to transition. As an adult, I married a woman, had kids, and tried to play the role of "the man." And I really did try, but hated every second of it.

To make a long story short, I am now happily single, and making small steps toward presenting in a more feminine way. I'm also exploring HRT, but I also suffer from lifelong bouts of depression, and I'm afraid hormones may destabilize my already shaky remission.

But here I am, and regardless of whether I go with HRT or not, I'm not turning back. I've been reading the forum for a while and I think you're all so brave to be making your own personal journey of transition.

Peace and Love to All,
Joni

Joni... Welcome aboard sister!!!

Your bio sounds like many of us here... There are many common threads to most of our stories... I started the transition ball rolling four years ago at age 52... I am finally living a life that is truly my own..  You may find HRT actually works a lot better than anything else for stabilizing mood!!!

Move ahead into this journey with hope in your heart... Amazing things await and you have a lot of friends here now to share the struggles and celebrate your victories!!!

Onward we go brave sister!!!

"The individual has always had to struggle from being overwhelmed by the tribe... But, no price is too high for the privilege of owning yourself" ... Rudyard Kipling 🌸

Let go of the things that no longer serve you... Let go of the pretense of the false persona, it is not you... Let go of the armor that you have worn for a lifetime, to serve the expectations of others and, to protect the woman inside... She needs protection no longer.... She is tired of hiding and more courageous than you know... Let her prove that to you....Let her step out of the dark and feel the light upon her face.... amg🌸

Ashley is right that your journeys road is common with many.  I'm 61 and started hurt in July.  I felt a bit unhinged from my typical emotions about a month in briefly.  I seemed to even out within days.  I now have a calmer demeanor and enjoy interacting (instead of stand-offish) with people.  I very much like the idea of thinking more like a woman.

Hi Joni, welcome!
Your story is very similar to mine. I first realized I am trans at about 12, fought it tooth and nail until last year. I'm 57.
