Hello everyone!

You can call me Nightingale... I am a soon to be 23-year-old male-to-female transsexual living in Illinois, USA. I have been on this journey for two years now and am in a bit of a jam...

I wasn't sure whether or not to post this in the surgery section since I am a newcomer here, so if the moderators wish to move it then that's okay. I'm just looking for a little help starting research for sex reassignment surgery.

Where do I even begin? How do I know if a surgeon is right for me? And how can I begin saving up (my insurance is really bad, so all expenses are coming straight from my own pocket)?

Things are very stressful for me right now... I have extreme bottom dysphoria and it is affecting my intimate life in some very negative ways and causing a lot of physical agitation... I feel scared and desperate and I want the pain to stop, but surgery is so darn expensive... I'm in the dark with no where to go...

I know there are people here that have gone through this too... where do I begin? Is there some sort of registry I can go to that'll narrow down the list of surgeons?

Maybe I could give a list of qualities I'm seeking and I could have a list of names to start looking...

Welcome to Susan's Place. My surgery is really out of date but I have been learning a bit about it on the site. The U.S. has several surgeons who do quality work and a few have shorter waiting lists. Out of the country there are at least 5 big names though some of them have longer waiting lists. In addition the surgeons use different procedures so your choice will depend on the type of surgery you desire.

The good news is people are willing to help so post what you know along with your questions and you will get responses. It may take a few weeks of study but with what the GCS section contains and the answers we can provide, you should be able to decide on a surgeon.

Hi Nightingale and welcome to the forum!!!...I remember the " Where do even start?" feeling...

It can feel very overwhelming but the information can be shifted through and sound decisions can be made based on your needs.. You've arrived at a wonderful place here with a wealth of experience to draw on... This journey is best made with friends at your side and you are amongst friends here!!! All will be well...

My bottom surgery was in 2015 with Dr Marci Bowers... if you end up considering her, I would be happy to answer any and all questions about my procedure, results or the process itself
