Because of continuing obligations with the military, I can't have my hair long. I've just ordered a couple wigs. I plan on going out dressed as myself for the first time next week- to my first Med appointment. Nothing overly crazy- yoga pants and a big sweater maybe (closer to definitely) So to look as passable as possible, this early in the game, I bought the wigs.  Any tips? I eyed the color the best I could.  Also- the tuck-I've been trying , with limited success. Tips? Maybe going in another direction other than yoga pants so the tuck is less necessary.  Throw your suggestions experience my way girls.

I use control top Lycra panties to tuck. I can wear yoga pants or anything else . The brand I use is cupid. You can get them at Walmart.

For tucking - look around online. The best 'how to' I had found said that you need to push your testicles back up into your body (there's room up in there), pull your penis back, and use tight shapewear instead of panties. I've had quite good luck with this method.

As for wigs, that's trickier. The big thing is that you will need to pay attention and style it, and that good wigs are more expensive, but worth the cost. The first wigs I had were cheap Halloween costume wigs, and they looked it.

I wouldn't have the balls (pardon the pun) to wear yoga pants in public, even tucked.  A pair of skinny jeans is quite feminine, blends in everywhere, and will even help with your tuck.

For tucking, I use the same method as Julia: firm control briefs.  They work really well.

For the wig, take it to a hairdresser.  They deliberately make them too long, so there's something to trim and style.

Wound up finding a good outfit - went with some jeggings, a long sleeve top and sweater. I found a good tuck method, tried it last night....Aces! I've been tucked for over an hour now, and its all good.  ;). Keep in mind, I tried my new ensemble on, with my youngest son, 19, in the next room. [emoji50] Taking a lot of chances. I' put some pics up when I put it all together Monday night.

Hmm , i have never weared wigs, wear what you want, from joga pants - skinny jeans, your life, if you like what you see in the mirror that matters. I am sure you look like a woman no matter what clothing you choose.

Hi KC,

It's important you do what is comfortable for you. What I would suggest is going to your appointment wearing girls jeans, or a girls sweater, or girls underwear, or girls sneakers. Before I was ready to go out as me I wore pieces of girls clothing that were low key and could pass as guys stuff. That way I knew that I was going out in girls clothes but most other people didn't notice.

It's hard to go out for the first time in a wig, makeup, full girls clothes. Just pace yourself. :)

Much love. <3

Hello,

You can actually pull off makeup so it evens out skin tone etc, but doesn't actually get noticed by many unless they look closely. I got so sick of beard shadow I do that pretty much every day now. A subtle lip gloss and a little oil over the foundation to make it look a little less artificial makes me feel like I've done something, but it isn't obvious.
Every day is a totally awesome day

Every fear faced leads to one more strength
Every strength leads to greater success
Success leads to self esteem
Self Esteem leads to happiness.
Cherish every day.

Yes, I knew when I read "ordered a couple of wigs" that you were pretty low on the learning curve with this stuff. I've owned and worn wigs on and off for many years and I find it quite difficult to buy, fit and style a wig so that it looks anything like it's really my hair. The best way is to have about three or four grand in your pocket and go to a very good wig salon. If you score the first time you randomly order one from an online dealer you're very, very lucky.

So I was able to get to a look I was content with. I still need some work. I'm sitting in the car outside Whitman Walker in DC. I made it out of my hotel room to my car, made the drive and realized thus far no one is paying attention or seems to care.
Here's my look. I used the black and white filter to hide just how...less than perfect it all came out, so to speak.

I would clean up brows in a salon. Nothing crazy (clean stray outsiders and between, more if you're comfortable) and as far as I know there is no military regulations about brows.

Some makeup - beard cover if you need it, foundation, little powder to set in, mascara, lipstick. You can get foundation from Sephora or any other place having a cosmetician, even if you aren't dressed up.

I personally would prefer nice skirt (little to no butt, tucking - skirt hides it all and I just love skirts) and 2" heels (makes me move differently -> more femininely), but if you want leggings and sneakers - it's a free country and personal preference.

Thank you. For the advice. The brows are definitely an issue. As a far as facial cover, it just wouldn't cover up. It was really disheartening. I found a laser hair removal place pretty close to where I live, I'm going to be giving them a call here soon. More than likely tomorrow. Plus I need to find foundation and whatnot that works well with my skin tone. Eyeliner, mascara etc- I'm ok with. Lips need some work for sure.

I got some good success in the past with Sephora. I just walked in as a guy and told them I do drag sometimes and need good foundation. They not only helped me to find the right color but also taught me how to apply it. Several years later I walked in to a Walgreens and asked a girl in cosmetic counter to help me and she did pretty much the sam as Sephora guy (minus lesson on how to apply it)

I don't wear a wig but I have been tucking for years.

I still use the elastic from the top part of panty holes and a sock with the foot cut off. It has worked the best for me and it lets me wear pretty much anything I want and yoga pants are my thing. Bathroom is fast in and out.  ;)

Thank you Julia!  I need some! .......do they show panty lines through the yoga pants?
