Hi everyone. I wanted to share this recipe.  I make this in the crock pot, that way I don't have to stand there stirring it and watching it so it doesn't scorch. This recipe makes a lot of hot chocolate. I make it to have on Christmas eve. One more thing, in no way is this low calorie. If you're worried about calories then skip this recipe.

4 cups of whole milk.
1 can of sweetened condensed milk. Not evaporated milk.
1 4oz bar of white chocolate chopped.
1/2 cup of chocolate chips.
2 tsp vanilla extract.
4-5 drops of red food coloring.

Put everything in the crock pot and heat it on low for 2 hours.  I top the cups of warm chocolate with whipped cream and red sprinkles. But of course you don't have to. This recipe  makes enough to serve 4-5 normal people or 2-3 people like my brother. Lol

Wow that sounds delicious! I'm definitely giving that a go.

I usually mix 2 mugs of milk, 4-5 teaspoons of cocoa and 3 teaspoons of sugar in a pan and worm through and the pour into mugs with some cherry brandy or hazelnut moonshine.

Or

Add warm milk to some chocolate flakes x

Oh my, you are patient with 2 hours in a crock pot.

I microwave 2 cups of skim milk for 3 minutes. Add 2 shakes of salt, 1 tablespoonful of sugar and 1 tablespoonful of dark cocoa powder. Mix for 30 seconds and I am in chocolate heaven.

I don't make this very often. Only for special occasions, like when it is cold outside. The calorie count is about in the 500 range.

You're very welcome. My brother loves red velvet too. He's never been into hot chocolate but I made the red velvet hot chocolate last year and he totally loved it.

Julia, I find it so heart warming that you and your brother are so close.

Sigh, Jess

Abuelita from Nestle is a chocolate tablet. Each table is sectioned off into 8 slices. Each cup uses two slices. It's best to go ahead and make 4 cups that way your brother will be satisfied, and you won't have to cut the tablet and risk slicing off your fingers. It's very hard.   Each tablet has all the ingredients in it and you basically just drop it in the milk while it is heating up and using a whip, stir it well to integrate.  The chocolate is infused with cinnamon, almond flavor and I add a pinch of cayenne pepper sprinkled on top. Chili pepper goes so well with chocolate  If you desire, put on whip cream.

That sounds awesome.  Do they. Have the abuelita at the store or do you have to get online?

It should be available in the Hispanic Foods section of King Soopers. If not there it may be with the cocoa. It should be easy to find. Last time I was in Denver there were quite a few Latino markets. There is another brand Ibarra and they have the same yellow box with red logos and writing. Look for Grandma on the package. Actually I just checked the King Soopers website and they carry the Ibarra brand.
