Estradiol Patch Removal

Howdy ya'awl!!!!!

So, my Endo who's really into prescribing the Estradiol patches, had to change my patch to another type.  The original one which was Minivel or something like that was small and hardly noticeable but so unnoticeable that it would fall off without my knowing.

The new patch, which I have to try for a couple of weeks and if it doesn't work, she'll put me on oral.  Anyway, Last Friday I received them and placed them on my hips.  The brand is Alora.  Anyway, they're about 4 times the size of the Minivelles and I started developing a rash so to speak and while they stay on they tend to crinkle a little.

One was beginning to really burn and I noticed some breakage on my skin and removed them.  Now, in addition to the small circles of where the stickum glue was, I have a large square. 

I have tried everything I can think of to remove the gunk.  Any suggestions?

With the patch I use, I rub 91% isopropyl alcohol with a cotton ball to get the stickum off.

I use a product called "Goo Off" I actually bought it in the USA the last time I was there many moons ago. I think it was from WalMart or somewhere similar and used to remove glue residue from things.

As for the rash, clean the area with some alcohol to get rid of any soap or perfume residue before applying the patch, if they are the large crinkly type I used millipore tape to cover them.

I also swap sides for the patches and clean the area with make up remover after and put on moisturiser to help the area recover.

I was on the Samdoz patches and the glue really stuck! I wet the residue with rubbing alcohol and let it work on the glue for a minute, then I used a cotton ball soaked in alcohol to scrub the glue off. It would leave a red irritated mark for a few days. Great tradeoff for the tatas, though.

mine are about 2ins square and like thin cellophane  and getting them off is like being waxed!!!!! I shave the area first as well but 3 1/2 days something grows. I use alcohol rub and eye make up remover and use skin cream after as well , swop inner outer and left right . Still see where the patches have been for a few days as the skin feels softer and looks pink.

1. When it is time to insert new patch, must the "used" one be immediately removed? Better to remove or keep on?

2. Is it better to put new patch a significant space (but still where there is fat) from previous patch or is space irrelevant?

Mine are to be replaced every 3 1/2 days.  While most the medication probably has been transferred, it's probably not a good idea to keep old patches on.  I know when I tried to quit smoking using the transdermal patches it said to remove and clean and to wait an hour before smoking so it goes to say that some medication can still be delivered.

Thankfully, with the advice I was given, I was able to remove the old sticky stuff yesterday.

I am on 3 1/2 day patches.  I know that some people leave their old patches on for a while, but that could mess up your doctor's calculation of your dosage.  Better to remove them when you apply new ones.

The instructions with mine say to let an area of skin recover for 7 days before re-using it.  Based on how long the red mark lasts after I remove the patch, this seems about right.  So I have three sites for each patch, that I use in rotation.  That gives each area two full cycles before I re-use it.

I use my left hip (kind of on my butt, but at the side, where I can reach it and see what I am doing, not the back), right hip, and abdomen.  I avoid putting a patch right over the bony part of my pelvis.  I figure the E will absorb better on soft tissue with good blood flow.
