I was asked by one of the mods to post an introduction, so here goes. One of my other posts had a section about myself, to illustrate a point, but it will do fine as an introduction to those aspects of myself that led me to join this forum in the first place:

QuoteI'm taking MTF hormones right now and loving it, best decision I ever made—but I have no desire for "girly" things like, say, dresses or nail polish, and while I wear women's clothing, my idea of women's clothing is closer to the women's section at a hardware store clothing aisle than the women's section at Macy's. Oh and I do very much like my face better with no facial hair, so I'm getting laser, but I pretty much don't care about what my voice sounds like. So what does that make me?

Beats me. Your guess is as good as mine. And that's fine by me.

But I'm not going to wait to do the things that I clearly need to do to make my life worthwhile simply because I don't fit into some puny category.

And that, in some sense, is what "genderqueer" is. To me at least. Which means that just by not caring about categories nearly as much as about figuring out what makes me feel like a human for a change, I just assigned myself to a category!

As for not-gender-related stuff about myself... I do computer stuff in the SF Bay Area. That's probably all you're getting for now; sorry about that.

Faith

Welcome to Susan's

Reading all the posts here MtF & FtM & and in between, I see a bigger similarity than some. No one fits the labels. everyone sees themselves as a little of this, a little of that and a bunch of the middle. Embrace and enjoy the middle where you can be yourself.

Vive La Gray Zone
(close enough for me!)

sorry, yep, I still need more coffee .....
I left the door open, only a few came through. such is my life.

Yes, Faith — it is my experience that even in communities where people all seem to tell very similar stories about what being trans means to them, when you dig deeper you see a lot of variation, with people who don't fit the norm for the particular group often just not being as vocal as those who do.

But also sometimes the "standard" stories that really rub some of us the wrong way (and of course what's "standard" varies)... those stories often came into being because there are also people for whom they do fit and for whom they do explain what's going on and for whom they do provide validation.

My conclusion from all of this is simply to marvel at the amazing variety of the human experience and be thankful I get to live in a time and place where I can tweak the knobs in ways that make my life better. A lot better.  :D

Hi Hannie 🙋‍♀️ Welcome to Susan's.  I'm a SF Bay girl too.  We also have in common your attitude about passing.

As good a name as any. I've written about trans stuff under my own name elsewhere on the internet but for now for here it'll do.
