I just wanted to introduce myself to everybody out there! I'm not too great at the whole introduction thing but I thought I'd give it a whirl. I'm 25 and l live in a medium sized city in the Midwest. I began my transition when I was 18 in college by starting HRT. I went full-time about a year later and was very fortunate to have a supportive group of friends while I was in school. I moved out of state after college and have been living in stealth (with the exception of a few very close friends) for the past several years. I had my GRS a little over a year ago and am very happy with my body at this point in my life.

Being transgender has taught me to be a compassionate person so I believe in loving others by first loving yourself and that one of the most important things in life is to learn to give and receive love freely. It took me a long time to get to this mindset and it's still something I struggle with; I wanted to join these forums to talk with other trans people and build a network of support. I've had many cis allies throughout my transition but for some reason I've always been afraid to get support from the trans community itself. In my experience, living in stealth can be both incredibly freeing and incredibly isolating so I am starting to realize the importance of talking with others who have gone through some of the same experiences as myself.

I am very into psychology and would like to continue my education so I can help others throughout my lifetime. It would be great to eventually give back to the trans community in some tangible way so that is a life goal of mine. I also enjoy writing, journaling, music, spending time with friends, food, and, ultimately, growing as a person.

Anyways, to avoid going on and on about myself...hi! :)

Hi Mermaiden 🙋‍♀️ I believe that the realization of being transgendered mtf brings to the surface emotions that are staunchly repressed by males because of societal pressures.  Giving and receiving love is mostly foreign to most men, especially between each other.  I don't know if it is because of HT or just being relieved of those pressures, but I am far more open with women now and it seems more women interact more openly with me.  I don't know why, but it has made me so happy because of it.

Laurie

Hi Mer,

I'm Laurie. I'm mtf also but my dear you should be counseling me as you have been at this longer than I have. I only started hrt a little over a year ago about a month after discovering I was  a transwoman instead of the crossdresser I thought I was. I wish now that I had known something like 60 years ago and that those times were as enlightened as they are today.
I'm glad you are here and I am glad you are able to love yourself. Some of us can't do that for one reason or another. I am going to disagree with you about that though, it is possible to love others even when you hate yourself. I know this thing.
Hey Mer, (and you are Mer until you tell us ther name you like to be called), we'll see you around the site. Do join in.

Hugs,
   Laurie

Hi Mermaiden,

I really appreciate what you wrote, and wanted to say thanks for the inspirational thoughts! As someone who has played hide and seek with emotions, thoughts, expressions, etc., your post has given me some good insight to think about.

Anyway, from one new person here to another, hi!
