how is travel as a trans person? especially during transition?

Ok this may sound odd, but Im considering transitioning abroad and out of the UK. I've weighed up some things and I've realized I might be in for a more exciting time if I decide to transition while I take the gap year I've been promising myself all these years. I know you can get gender identity confirmation cards, but would it be worth transitioning BEFORE I go or during?

See, I might lose my job, family and access to my go to clubs for my hobbies (martial arts has been a big part of my life) and one thing I considered was to go travel to different training camps around the world to learn while I transition and come back ready to start over after a year dedicated to my health and wellbeing. Only concern with that is crossing borders and passports for me

Might depend which country. Canada - US I frequently do in women cloths and male passport. No issues. Same for Germany - US

India technically allows a third gender selection when applying for a Visa, but I chose to follow my passport and appeared in female but androgynous cloths.

I guess it all depends on the country you travel to. Might be worth doing some research on each country. I personally have decided to avoid the Middle East. I know there are beautiful places but I also know that they are not too friendly when it comes to being trans (and that even applies to a layover)

Once you have the list of countries and researched them, The only trick will be access to hormones. Not sure anyone would give you a one year supply (I am traveling for 6 we is now and my pharmacy run out of Estradiol. Now I need to find someone to pick it up and FedEx to my hotel... shipping m da international is even much more complicated and again varies by country.

This is something I've been thinking more and more about. My work has me traveling a lot and apart from having to avoid countries and get felt up at every security check point, I'm very curious to know about receiving medication while abroad.
The thought that I might go off Tblockers and E and likely get a T spike because I can't get access to medication frightens me a bit... that and not being able to get regular checkups and blood-work.

At the risk of sounding paranoid, I'll say my experience has been interesting in the US.  Overseas in France  was androgynous to more male with no issues, but I took enough pills with me for the trip.  Even in the most nervous places ststeside there have been no real conflicts, just plenty of looks that tell you to finish up and git!  You have to know the lay of the land and where you are, especially if you are in between.  Now that I'm full time and fairly passable, I'm actually much more at ease and use the female facilities with no issues at all.  Toni
