In some areas of the US, two lane roads can be choked with traffic. However, in remote or rural areas, they can be very relaxing. Lower speeds, more scenery, generally very little traffic.
We were at my dad's house again over the weekend. I finished clearing out one side of the loft Friday evening, but there is still a lot of stuff up there. Although it was a successful weekend in terms of sales, we had our first injury.
One of the people looking at car parts was trying to reach a small plastic crate full of trim pieces. Instead of clearing a path to the crate, he stepped onto a small pile of chrome trim. He lost his balance and fell. He was uninjured because he landed on some padding -- me. I had reached over to help him get the crate. When he lost his balance, he landed on top of me. Unfortunately I did not land on concrete, I landed on another pile of old car parts... some large, pointy hood ornaments. The person who fell on me was at least 300lbs. It took him a minute or two to get back up. Although the customer said he was OK, I could not say the same.
I went back to the house, and Susan helped clean the wounds. Although I was in pain, I kept working the rest of the day. There wasn't anyone else available who could manage the sale of the car parts. Once the buyers had left, we had supper before heading to my brother's house so I could clean up. After taking a shower, I tried to inventory the damage. I had heavy bruises on my right calf and right wrist, my left thumb was sprained, and I had two cuts along with another deep bruise on the left side of my lower back. My left forearm had also been sore all day. What I thought was a minor scrape was actually a deep puncture wound. I had to sit down after looking at it closely, it was much worse than I thought. I went to a 24hr Urgent Care Clinic to get checked out.
After cleaning my wounds, they did a few x-rays on my thumb to make sure there was no major damage. Since it had been more than 12 hours since the incident, they opted not to use stitches to close the wound on my forearm. I also got a tetanus shot. Although I'm still quite sore and have some bruises which are a beautiful shade of purple, there should be no lasting damage other than a small scar on my forearm. The doctor even gave me a note to take the week off. Unfortunately, all of our sick time and vacation time is lumped into one pool, so taking the suggested time off would be at the expense of vacation time.
We are set to close the sale of my father's house next Friday.
Love always -- Jess
