I decided today after years of getting it wrong to go to the Mac counter at Belk's and learn how to cover up my beard shadow. The sales rep was very nice and very helpful. She tried several different colors and blends before she let me look. She did half my face so I could see the difference. All I could say was Wow! What a difference. She then offered to do the rest of my face and of course, I said yes. I was really excited.
When she was finishing up my face, I noticed her eyeliner. I said that my eyeliner always looked so heavy, like raccoon eyes. She offered to do my eyes as well. So she put on eye liner and mascarra. What I noticed was her touch was so light! I have been applying eyeliner like a kid with a crayon!
After a little chit chat, I went to pay for the concealer. It was $30. I have never paid so much for one package of make-up, but it was worth it, because it was the right color for me. I took one last look in the mirror and frowned slightly. She noticed and asked if everything was ok? I told her yes, but now my lips looked lost. So she offered to put on some lipstick for me. Since the rest of the make up was neutral, I went with a bold, iridescent purple lavender lipstick/lip liner. Again- Wow! Having it applied by someone who knows how made a huge difference.
I thanked her and told her that I have never felt so good about the way my make-up looked. You have really made my day! She smiled, almost as much as I did!
So, what did I learn?
1. Yes, make up counters are more expensive, but she was willing to take the time to find the right color. That saves me money and time.
2. A light touch is much better than heavy with eyeliner. Seems obvious, but this is only the second time anybody has seen me with any makeup on, so no advice ever!
3. Lip liner is a must for me. The liner held the color as it faded slightly from my lips creating a really pretty gradient, as opposed to just fading.
4. I need to start watching you tube videos and check out the make-up classes she had mentioned. I have discovered the obvious- makeup is hands on and I need a tutor!
5. Let the salesrep see I'm happy. I think she enjoyed the change as much as I did!
Overall, a great day! I am really getting into this shopping now that I have more or less gotten over my fear of being open about it. I know I will have a bad experience at some point, for now, it's been really great being open about the shopping.
Here's a pic of the result. The compression didn't do the results any justice. Maybe I will redo the picture with one of higher quality...
