hey guys so basicly i have been on hormones for almost six months now. And i went and got my blood test the other day just to check if everything is well balanced and what not.... so i later found out that my testosterone levels are way higher than it used to be, which my  doctor find it odd.. i did exactly what she told me .. i took my medication rigorously and i never missed any medication that my testosterone should be lower, and my doctor couldnt explain it...In saying that does anyone have any experience in this matter. as i am really scared on whats going on with my body, it made me doubt if hormones is for me all along. pls help.

Are you taking any other medications besides the HRT? Medication interactions could play a major role in undesired hormonal goal. For example, if you are taking any medication for seizure management such as carbamazepine (Brand: Tegretol), barbiturates (e.g. phenobarbital (Brand: Phenobarb)), or antibacterial (e.g. Rifampin (Brand: Rifadin)), they tend to lower the drug concentrations in the body. For your privacy, I wouldn't recommend you to tell us what medications you are taking but would recommend you to talk to your pharmacist if you think there might be an drug-drug interactions (Including herbal and dietary supplements!). One additional note, if you are taking spironolactone (Brand: Aldactone), it's better to take it with food because it not only reduce the side effect (upset stomach) but also increase the absorption of the drug.

Welcome to Susan's Place. I can think of two possible problems. The first is one or more of the lab tests were in error. It doesn't happen often but it does happen and if it's important to know, you should have a retest. The second issue is some of the blockers/AAs can cause an increase in testosterone, however as they block the effects of testosterone the testosterone won't have an effect on your body. Others who are more knowledgable about these drugs can provide additional information if you tell us which blocker you are receiving. We don't need to know the dosage, only the name of the drug.

I am not a medical doctor, nor a scientist - opinions expressed by me on the subject of HRT are merely based on my own review of some of the scientific literature over the last decade or so, on anecdotal evidence from women in various discussion forums that I have come across, and my personal experience

On HRT since early 2004
Post-op since late 2005
