Just saw my clit for the first time

I had SRS with Dr. Chet about three weeks ago. Today the nurse showed me my clit for the first time, and it was just a huge swollen red blob with white patches. I've been having fairly constant discharge from that area that looks like pus and blood mixed together, and Chet did extend my antibiotics and swelling medication a couple weeks at my checkup. The surrounding area is very sensitive and I can feel sharp pains when the nurse applies medicine to the area.

The nurse said it was looking better (I didn't even know anything was wrong!), but seeing that red and white blob totally freaked me out. I definitely feel like I'm being kept in the dark here by Chet and the nurses. Has anyone had a similar experience? Should I be worried or is this just part of the healing experience?

Swelling after srs is quite common and occurs in different places. Some infection and swelling take time to recover and it's a very individual thing. I would not worry as they are addressing the problem. Wait and see.
When we first start our journey the perception and moral values all dramatically change in wonderment. As we evolve further it all becomes normal again but the journey has changed us forever.

Hey Little Sister!!!

Welcome to the forum!!!

Please don't be troubled!... Healing goes through a lot of stages and all will be well... patience is your friend as you go along... it is easy to let worries about how things are healing take hold and get away from you but try to let go of the worry and let time work it's magic... often there can be white tissue on the clit... asymmetrical swelling... hematoma... stitches blown out and the list goes on but in the end... it all heals just fine...

Be gentle with yourself sister and congrats on the brave step forward!!!

Onward we go brave girl

Thank you for the kind words and reminder to not stress! I guess if the nurse and Chet aren't worried neither should I. I totally get what you mean about letting worries get away from you... Just a week ago I was freaking out about a fourchette tear, and it has healed up just fine.

Hi Again Sister!!!

Yes, the healing process is filled with opportunities to worry but, instead ...I hope you let the worries fall away so that you can enjoy the amazing process of transforming your body and marvel at your own courage!

You are one who did not settle for the cards life dealt you and rejected the game that the world dictate that you play... You chose a bold path... to make your life what you need it to be... embrace the power of that... enjoy every moment of that dear sister!!!

Onward we go!!!

I am one month post-op.  (Dr. Ellie Ley at Toby Meltzer's clinic, details here).  First time I saw mine I was like... wow that looks exactly like a thistle.  White sharp spikes pointing in every direction.  I think that's because the density of sutures (stitches) required to form and heal it into the correct shape are very complex.  For the first couple weeks touching any of those sutures was yeeeouch, I quickly learned to leave it alone unless absolutely necessary... applying anti-bacterial as directed wasn't fun.  I can now touch the sutures without too much pain, they are gradually disappearing on their own.  I have heard it takes at least 3 months for things to calm down and a half year to really settle in.  I don't mind waiting, the time required for all these things is a tiny fraction of my new life.

Best wishes and congratulations.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one! That's a great way to describe it. Thank you for sharing and soothing my worries.

I am just past my five month post op mark and fully agree with what has been said by the other posters. My swelling is quite reduced and I am really liking the looks of Dr. Ley's work, but I am expecting more changes to the area as my healing progresses, probably until the nine or twelve month post op marks. Rest assured, it does get better! Set your worries aside for a while, spend your energies on healing.

I had surgery along with two other transwomen at Chett's. My surgery went okay, but one of the other women had some complications post surgery. She knew something was off but Som kept trying to reassure her that everything was okay and fine. It wasn't until about 2 weeks later that Som said that the stitches came apart but it would be fixed during surgery. Here's what she posted:

QuoteThere were definitely some things I wasn't impressed with. I wish I'd made it clear upfront that I'd rather be informed than reassured through the recovery process. If on day 7 I'd been told "You've had some stitches come open, that's not great, but the surgeon will fix it in the revision", the following two weeks would have been much easier, rather than repeatedly being told "It's OK, nothing to worry about" while knowing damn well that something was wrong but not having any idea how bad it was.

With that said, I've seen plenty of recovery pictures where the clitoris is swollen red with white patches, so I wouldn't worry too much. If you're still worried and you don't mind, you could send me a picture and I could give you my unprofessional opinion.

I am 7 weeks 4 days post op from surgery preformed by Dr. Ley, in just the past few days things have calmed down (most of the sutures are gone and healed) I had a bit of an infection when I came home, not fun at all. Dr. Ley's office was great and my GP and Gyno were 100% amazing! I had a follow up appointment today with my Gyno and she was amazed on how great it all looked. She did at the beginning suggest I soak 2 times a day in a shallow warm bath with 2-3 cups of instant ocean, that has done wonders for my skin in general. So happy you were able to move on with being you.
