Most transgender friendly places to live?

Hi all! A breif introduction:

I am nearing my 30's and just finally coming to the place where I am ready to begin figuring out what transitioning looks like for me. I am transmasculine/non-binary and I know without a doubt I would like top surgery as well as meet with an endocrinologist.

I currently live in a small town and I actually have a written referral from my psychiatrist to see an endocrinologist; however I haven't had any luck finding anyone here to "takes patients like me"...the receptionist at the main office here told me that, and didn't even know what "hormone replacement therapy" was. The university has services but only for students, and there is one doctor but they only work with MTF.

I had a therapist here briefly who claimed they specialized in treating patients with gender dysphoria but it turned out they didn't even know what non-binary was.

I'm in a fragile spot in all aspects of my life...I've been through a lot and I know I'm not about to enter an especially easy time with all of this. One thing that is clear to me is that I need to get out of the town I am in and return to a city...I've lived in both Portland as well and the Bay and there is was so much less isolating, and I know it would be much easier to find doctors. As much as part of me wants to just begin my transition now and not wait to be in a new place...I've been trying to leave here a lot time.

On top of everything it's not easy being my age and living back next to my mother, who has been generally supportive of pretty much everything in my life except for this...the thing I need support with the most. Who I am. No big deal. 😛 I've had to accept this is the way things are but everyone deserves support, love, community...doctors that see "people like them"

So my question; Where are the best places to live while beginning your transition and just being trans in general? I've been a bit too depressed to try to research and understand what and where laws are changing in the US...I know a lot of them are. I would like to leave the US but I am on Disability/Medicare here and that's really all I have right now.

Welcome to Susan's.

I am sorry you are finding it hard to find appropriate services near you.  I can relate: I too live in a rural area, and I have to drive an hour and a half to the city to access any services.  On the other hand, I have been pleasantly surprised at how accepting people are here.  Even farmers, fishermen and hillbillies have all been okay with my transition.

I hope someone is able to give you some good suggestions.

Capital Hill in Seattle is the Transgender hot spot in Washington. Complete with rainbow crosswalks. And it is only a few blocks away from where the Ingersoll support group meets.

Diverse Capitol Hill is packed with hip bars, eateries and gay clubs, plus laid-back coffee shops and indie stores. Volunteer Park, atop the hill in a historic mansion district, has walking trails, a plant conservatory, panoramic city views and the art deco Asian Art Museum. It abuts Lake View Cemetery, where the city's founders (and Bruce Lee) are buried. Kids play in the wading pool at smaller Cal Anderson Park.

In Florida we have Orlando, Ft Lauderdale and Key West. These are good places to live. OK places include Tampa Bay and Miami. Stay away from the Redneck Riviera (Pensacola area).

Ann Arbor, MI is pretty good.  It's expensive to live there, though.  I live in Ypsilanti, the next town over, which is cheaper.  Ferndale, MI is another good one.  All those cities have support groups for transmasculine folks, and there are multiple dr's who prescribe T.  I go through University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

St. Pete is really good. It and Orlando are the places where I attend support group get-togethers. I'm in central Florida in the Leesburg area. I expected bad reactions in what's a very conservative area, but everyone has been really cool here. No problems so far...

I'm in Denver and there are a lot of great resources and accepting neighborhoods and people.  Colorado State Law prohibits job discrimination and mandates that we can use the bathroom of our declared gender. 
Also, Colorado is one of the states with expanded Medicaid coverage.  It's also forseeable that after this next election in November a law will get passed that will allow us to change our gender marker on our birth certificate w/o surgery.  Fingers crossed.  Since becoming the national cannabis industry center, however, the cost of living has gone way up.
