You might point out to them that women practice martial arts.  Or you might tell them they are really dumb.  The first idea will probably work better.

Love is not obedience, conformity, or submission. It is a counterfeit love that is contingent upon authority, punishment, or reward. True love is respect and admiration, compassion and kindness, freely given by a healthy, unafraid human being....  - Dan Barker

Been there done that. People tend to have gender stereotypes for specific genders, and when you're trans people expect you to be the extreme 1950s stereotype. I had that thrown at me too years ago when I first came out. People just want to throw doubt and fear at you because they are insecure over them selves

Simply, you can be anything you chose to be. Adopt the attitude that
What they think of you is none of your business.
They can learn to keep it to themselves that way.

Unfortunately there are lots of folks who use their initial perception of surface data to form a final opinion that is not entirely accurate. I'm not totally out yet but I'd be willing to bet that if my co-workers saw me all done up and in a dress they'd definitely think I was trans enough. Conversely if while in dude mode having beers at the bar I told them I was trans they'd be like, "No way...I don't believe it." Hell..I love drinking beer, college football, playing violent video games, and launching the occasion snot rocket. Despite it all I'm still trans! 8)

Heather, I totally agree.  Hormonally I am completely in the female range, that is great for me.  I watch rugby, work out, enjoy the odd glass of ale. Yes I am trans, present in man mode but at the moment that works just fine.

My daughter has her junior black belt. She stopped going when she achieved her belt. 5 years I watch as she practiced. The adult class was before her class. About half were female.
