In my family, emotion was Never shown.  I learned early in life that I had to control my emotions, my parents didn't like any show of feelings.

Also, I was prediabetic and if I got excited about anything, I would immediately go into a depression twice as deep as the high was.

I never cried, not only was it unacceptable in my family, I would never want to let anyone know they had upset me.

After I was on hormones though I found it impossible to control my show of emotion.  Now I end up shedding tears at movies all the time.

I remember crying easily when I was young, so much that I was often called a "crybaby" (social conditioning at its worst!).  When I was a teen I finally learned to supress my tears, along with a great honkin' heap of other stuff, as you all may relate ;).

Now, although I am not on hormones, my realization of who I am has given me leave to become more emotional in many ways.  Just last evening I was watching a movie with my SO and I started getting moist during an on-screen marriage proposal!  Unheard of just a short time ago!

Along with my awakening, however, has come more depression than I've had since I was a teen so maybe that's why I can cry more easily - I'm predisposed to sadness as it is but,

I don't think so.
