Whistling...

Megan.

So I'm a little bit of a casual whistler, but I'm now very conscious when I do because it's not something I've typically heard cis-females do.

Anyone else have any thoughts or opinions on this?

Oh my Megan, now you've made me self conscious about the same thing!

Devlyn:  In my office I have a bunch of Christmas CDs that I am always playing...
....I love Christmas music, it makes me happy to listen to it all day... mostly instrumentals.

Devlyn... more from me:  Tying in with Christmas Time you would never know that today is the FIRST DAY of SPRING.... a time for new life.
. "new life"...Perhaps that is a good sign and a good message for all of those that are transitioning.

I would never know it was now Spring here... last night it got down to 4 deg F, now this morning it is 19 deg F and snowing, and later today it is suppose to go up to 26 deg F. (A heat wave here. LOL) I am definitely not breaking out my warmer clothes yet.  Today I am wearing my newest and warmest Red Winter Coat as shown in my Avatar photo.....  along with boots, gloves, warm hat, etc.
*** Devlyn: What is the weather situation on the First Day of Spring where you live???  I know that the Southeastern USA and East Coast and New England (a Nor'easter they call it) areas of the USA are getting bad stormy, cold and snowy weather so what is up with that? ???

So, in conclusion, I think that considering the snow and cold that I see out of my window, that Christmas Music is very appropriate.
Stay warm and have a good day,
Danielle

Christmas music, instrumental or not permeates brain all year.  I'm either singing or whistling them!

that's the problem, if I play Christmas Music with Vocals I can't hardly concentrate on my work at my office so in that situation mostly instrumentals work better, especially when I am on the phone or meeting with clients.

I hadn't really thought about whistling as a gendered activity.  Now that I think of it, it probably is.  Though typically, I whistle in private, such as in the car, so I don't really give a hoot.

However, I have noticed that I need to re-learn how to whistle.  Seems that my new girl lips have different accoustical properties than my old boy lips did.

I'm retired now, but when I was working, you could tell where I was by just listening for "Silver Bells".

Interesting!  I have always had a good singing voice, but it seems I have an even better range now.  Hmmmmmm!

It's something you don't hear too much anymore. Young people are too busy on the games I think. Prior to my dysphoria getting bad I whistled a lot. I haven't so much in the past few years though. I can tell when I am feeling extra good because I usually start to whistle.

My mother was a virtual song bird and could whistle amazingly well and I have always tried to get as good a she was. Haven't made it yet!
Cheers,

Dana

My grandma used to get in a right tizz when I started trying to learn to whistle. Good thing she never caught me learning to spit, eh?

My Nanna still hums and sings old tunes from the 40's and 50's and according to my Mum has done so ever since she was little. She will occasionally whistle too, but only in short bursts. My Grandad would often whistle a tune, but not hum or sing.

I think it's more of an age/generation thing and not really gendered. I don't know of anyone else who hums, whistles or sings casually.

lol.  I really can't do that.  I tried years ago but it always ended up very messy and I needed a tissue.  Gross. lol.

I've never been able to whistle. I just tried, and can now make a faint whistling sound, but that's about it. I hum various songs all the time, though!

I also have never been able to whistle.

I also agree with one of the comments above, that I think it's more of a generational than gender thing, as I don't know anyone around my age (millennial) who whistles.

I don't hear too many people whistling in general, but now that you mention it, it usually is men doing it.

I whistle a lot (I can do it three different ways), and I sing a lot. I'm pretty good, too. Even if I wasn't, IDGAF who hears or who cares.
