My wife has signed up for a women's only race along with all the other women in our running group.  All but my wife sees me as male and I'm sad that I'm not really able to run in this race.

Sad face, Jessica

Yes, Jessica....   a very sad face indeed. :(
Question:  Could you possibly sign up for a women's run that she is not participating in????

In the summer I usually run at least ONE marathon or half-marathon... and several charity runs and walks...   when it becomes that time of the year I will post some pictures... we have beautiful hiking, running and walking areas here.... but look out for the bears and cougars.

My wife isn't the problem, it's all the other women in our group that don't know.  I am the only "male" in the group, and I feel kinda left out.

OH, sorry, I mis-read what you had said.  Perhaps another venue, another event where the women don't know you and your wife?????

That doesn't defeat my sadness.  I wish I was farther along and was accepted as a woman.
I am socially able to behave as a woman in our group, it's all the other factors I have to deal with.
Some day I will be there.

So I talked to my wife about my sadness in missing this race.  She told me that she thought it may affect me when she posted on FB and understood how I felt.  This would be a big step to tell the group, but then I probably would run into interference at the start line anyway.

Pouty face, Jessica

Just talked to one of the women in the group, that told me she could get a skirt and bra for me.
I'm not out to her, but I'm sure I sparked some questions.
I mentioned it to my wife, who said she wasn't sure about that, but offered after a year maybe so.  So that is a tremendous step!

Jessica.... are you certain that the  "woman in the group" that told you that she could get a skirt and a bra for you.... doesn't have a suspicion that you are MTF transitioning???   It sounds like it to me.

Oh yeah... your wife offering to get you a bra and a skirt is indeed a tremendous step.
What did she think of your makeover that you, Laurie and the other girls did a couple weeks ago???

@Alaskan Danielle, I have never behaved like a typical male with these women.  I talk like they talk, I walk like they walk, I get emotional when they get emotional.  I'm sure they view me as an effeminate man that is comfortable with the way I am.  One of them, my wife and I get mani/pedis at least once a month.  We get along and laugh and have fun together other than just running too.  Game nights, bbq next to the pool, camping at Pismo.  There is only one other man in our circle, he avoids much of what we do (he's a bit of a jerk).
So yes, they may have a clue, especially since I wear women's tight running pants when we do our runs and races.  They may even have guessed that I'm on E, since my butt is bigger (looks great in the running pants), I look younger, due to fat redistribution adding in my face and subtracting from my waist.

After what my wife has told me, I feel like I'm on a cloud.

Smiles, Jess

What are the rules of the run? Can you do it on your own?

$5,000 purse, so they are pretty strict.  I don't pass well enough.  I've got the muscle mass of a woman and the hormones to boot though.  Oh well.

Jessica,

I don't know the US rules,  but in the UK I've raced and competed as a female in Triathlon events here.
The British Triathlon Federation (BTF) requires that my hormones are in normal female range, (which they are).
You may find the US governing body has the same rules. X

Thank you Megan!  I believe I fit the criteria,  E is 101 pg/ml.  T is 21.6 pg/ml

I think that, for international competition, the standard is for MTF athletes to have their hormones in the female range for 1 year.  That allows for T-fueled muscles to atrophy to female-normal size.  Find out what the actual requirements are for your event.  If you meet them, then have fun!

Thank you @KathyLauren, the rules say my T levels need to be under 10 ng/dL for one year.  I'm at 2.16 ng/dL but only since last December. I will just have to wait till next year.  Not that I expected to win though!  There's some pretty kick butt women that race and I'm 61 now.  I'd be lucky just to get the age group win!

Jessica:  I have participated in lots and lots of charity runs and walks.... marathons and half-marathons.... all of them without exception were men and women.... no separation of the sexes... that makes things easier for trans-folks.  Do you ever do those "non-sex divided"  events with your wife???  Also, do you workout in a gym in a female mode or a male mode?  With your wife?  With male friends?  With female friends? ... or both?

All the time, we both do about a race a month.  From 5-10-15k.  I'm the only one with the stamina for the 1/2 marathon.  This is the first race that was for women only I'd ever heard of.  And having a $5000 purse is nice.. oh well.  Que sera sera

In fun events no one cares, but if there is money the attitude changes. The IOC and Worlds have specific rules and you can easily look them up. Most national organizations follow these rules. Post op have no problem competing but pre op has many restrictions.  I am post op 2.5 yrs and on HRT for 6 years and I still have a residual muscle advantage. At 70 yrs old I still race a 26 min 5k in hot Bangkok and easily win my age group. I pass easily at 5ft 6.5ins. I have stopped competing in money races as I have an unfair advantage but still enter fun runs socially. Recently the Rainbow 5k and  10k.
When we first start our journey the perception and moral values all dramatically change in wonderment. As we evolve further it all becomes normal again but the journey has changed us forever.

I hope I can still do a 26 min 5k at 70
That's my typical pace at 61!

Wow, Jess

FYI,  I competed as a female athlete even before starting HRT, I simply agreed with the race organisers that regardless of my finish time, they would officially DQ me, so my result would not impact rankings of the other female competitors. The race staff were only ever supportive [emoji4]
