Question about hair removal

Veronica S.

Hello, everyone:

I've got an unusual question about hair removal, specifically on the face.

Short version: I'm currently having the pre-SRS hair removal done. The technician can offer me quite a discount on the other problem areas (face and chest).

I've already had 100+ hours of electrolysis, which has pretty much eliminated any dark facial hair I had. However, I still need quite a bit of hair removal (i.e. removal of white hairs) done, especially on the neck.

For whatever reasons, the technician doesn't seem to understand how much electrolysis I've had done, and that I have very few dark hairs at this point. To give you an idea here, the therapist tells me that she wouldn't have been able to guess I had any more facial hair removal to do. Also, the technician works at a well-established, state of the art facility, and has a good reputation among the local transgender community.

I'd really like to take advantage of the package I've been offered, but I don't think the face part will give me the desired results. I'd just as soon spend the time and money on however much electro I need.

But I'm also wondering if hair removal is more effective after SRS, since the primary, major source of testosterone is gone.

Any insight here is appreciated.

I'm curious about post SRS hair growth myself... will stay tuned for what others have to say.

My 2 cents about the discount is that you should take it but only if you can space out the appointments as far apart as you want. Sometimes it takes a while for dormant hair to start growing so if you have the benefit of electrolysis far into the future then you have security for a discounted price.

The last electrologist I had seen was pretty adamant that only after SRS would all the remaining hairs be killable. That makes sense intuitively.

But the woman I'm now saying won't provide a straight answer. I understand that results may vary, but what is particularly frustrating to me is that I have no reason to believe that my face would benefit from more laser.

I see her again in another month. I'll ask the question again and tell you what she says.

Electrolysis hair removal is effective anytime before or after surgery. The issue is many have less body hair after the testosterone has been tuned off for about a year. You can do this with blockers or surgery but knowing this might save you some money by not removing hair that will go away by it's self. Facial hair and south pole work(if required) should be your priority and after a year or more of low testosterone, you can determine what else you want to deal with.

I guess the thing I'm getting stuck on is the recommendation for more laser when that's clearly not going to be effective at this point. There must have been some sort of communication issue. I see her again in another month, and when I do I'll just tell that I'm willing/need to have more electro, not laser, on the face.

I've been on HRT for 16 months and there was no change in facial or pubic hair at all. Density, color and thickness stayed the same. The hair on my chest has all turned vellus except for a thin ring around the nipples, hair thinned out on the legs and most of the hair on my arms went vellus.

Hello:

Yes, I'm going to take the discount, but also tell her I'm more than happy to pay for electro sessions at the full price, since I'm not sure what additional laser will do. We have the laser sessions scheduled at appropriate intervals, but in all likelihood I will still be seeing her for laser after the surgery.

The previous technician had told me she thought she could finish my face in under ten electro sessions. That sounded very optimistic to me. I thought it would be more like 50-100.

What stuck me as odd about the interaction with the current technician is that she's recommending any more facial laser in the first place (again, therapist thought I was basically done, very few dark hairs). She's kind and professional, but for some reason we're not communicating on this one fairly important point.
