I also went through a stage where I pumped (about a year). I remember it was actually very relaxing, and I actually came to look forward to my pumping sessions, as it was relaxing and good me time.
I had an double electric pump, which means I could pump both breasts at once. I pumped for about 20 mins twice a day. I also took a herbal supplement to help with milk duct development. I eventually started to lactate after about 4 months, a few drops in the beginning, but toward the end of the pumping stage, I actually got a nice flow. But I did found, during my 20 minute pump, milk would come out only during the last 5 to 7 minutes.
I reason I pumped was to help mature my breasts, I my breasts were very cone shaped, often teenagers have these type of breasts. I did find my breasts became fuller (not bigger, but rounder) and for me the changes were permanent (These type of changes are not permanent for all women). My doctor told me, the breasts matured when my milk ducts developed. I ended up with breasts that looked more like an adults woman's breasts.
I want to adopt a baby some day, I would love to breast feed that child, if its possible.
