Hi all,

After battling all of 2018 so far with my insurance company over approval for FFS, things finally seem to be coming to a positive outcome soon. As my surgeon is extremely popular and I can't ask him directly until our final consultation, I thought I would come here and ask you all some things I'm wondering. Hopefully they don't sound too ignorant.

(I'm planning to have jaw reduction, neck lift, septoplasty, browbone reduction and hairline advancement)

After severely suffering from facial dysphoria, my biggest challenge has been facial hair removal. I've had 15-20 sessions of laser and about 5 of electrolysis. I still have growth on my chin (especially on the areas below the sides of my lower lip) and some other areas.

1) Does/can FFS have any possible effect on hair follicles?

2) If I'm getting a hairline advancement and I'm already having jaw work too, is there any way to remove the sideburns skin?

The way this came to mind is from having had post-weight loss surgery after losing 200 lbs - after my arm lift, I no longer get armpit hair since the skin in that area was removed.

Hi,

I haven't noticed any change in my facial hair since my FFS.

I would like to permanently get rid of my sideburns or least get them to a more feminine presentation.

Sincerely,

Caitlyn

I, too, lost over 100 pounds in my transition.  I had a brachioplasty and I lost my armpit hair just like you.

When I had my FFS, my surgeon also did a face lift which pulled a lot of cheek skin towards the ears. Yes, I did lose some of the hair on my cheeks but not all of it. My surgeon removed about 1 inch of skin from each cheek. How much hair you lose all depends on how much skin your surgeon removes.

I also had a scalp advance but it was limited in how much hair was available up on top. This leaves a big scar on the top of your head and I needed hair transplants to cover the scar and give me  a more feminine hair line.  I just had my hair transplants yesterday and my avatar is pre-hair transplant, so you cannot judge my hairline from that picture In about 6 months, my hair will grow out and I will post another picture.

For removing the sideburns skin, it all depends on where your surgeon places the incision for the face lift. Good surgeons can hide the scars very well, but there will always be a scar where they place the incision.

Thanks so much for sharing your story! That all makes a lot of sense.

I recommend asking your chosen surgeon, if you haven't already, where will they place the incisions for the neck lift. The surgeon might be able to make the incisions with short scars as with the short scar facelift:

I did FFS dead last after SRS, BA, and even hair transplants......and then after FFS, I did hair transplants again to cover the scar.

That being said, I don't think FFS did anything to help my facial hair folicles. I too did a lot of laser and a couple electrolysis sessions (shudder). I still have a few hairs on my chin/neck but I just pluck or shave them nowadays.
