I saw this story on Fox News.  One step in the right direction is that they did not have a comments section -- so the mass of bile and hatred that would have come through there was cut off.

In Pennsylvania we do not have a state wide law that would protect transgender people using the rest room that fits their identity.  There is ONE state legislator using his committee chairmanship to block such a law from going for a vote.  This would win by a wide margin and the governor has promised to sign it.  The individual is virulently homophobic.  He has a challenger in the coming general election -- an openly gay man.  I am REALLY hoping here.  That is not really a swing district, but it has gone the other way in the past.

This candidate in California is out of touch.  She can't win, and despite what she thinks she HURTS the prospects for her identified party in other races.

I'm a 65 year old male who has been thinking about SRS for many years.  I also was a  full cross dresser for a few years.  I wear a bra, pantyhose and nail polish daily because it just feels right.

I, too, see this as staged in the sense that the candidate was, I think, lying in wait to video a "gotcha" moment that she thinks will somehow garner her a few more votes.  It will certainty appeal to her base, but I don't think it will impress very many swing voters.  Swing voters are where elections are won or lost.

I doubt very much that she even needed to use the restroom for anything other than her political statement.

Stevi

The video on her Facebook page ( https://www.facebook.com/jazmina.saavedra.7/videos/10212432236662423/ ) shows her sitting back down at the table after the transwoman is escorted away at the end. She never went back into the bathroom and the video ran for several minutes afterward and for someone that supposedly needed to use the bathroom, she wasn't in any hurry to go now that she wasn't in there anymore.

A couple of other things disturbing is that she invaded the transwoman's privacy and she was claiming her privacy was violated. The other thing is that she states that someone who identifies as female is allowed to using the ladies in by California law. (She didn't put it so nicely) Yet she thinks she is above the law and breaks the law by confronting her and getting the manager to kick her out which I don't understand since Denny's is pro-LGBT and California's had some of the best anti-discrimination laws including bathroom rights for transgender rights on the planet.

I do feel like the GOP candidate set this up as the transgender woman states that she had followed her before and she picked a non-passing transwoman as her victim. I think however that this is going to backfire on her for California. Had this been in TN or NC, it might have worked on a local level.

Is that a problem?   ;)

It depends on how you look at things.  If the US House changes hands the president will be impeached.  If that gets by the Senate (it probably won't, but IF) then we get Mr. Pence for president.  Bad as things are, that still would be going from the frying pan to the fire.  That said, I still don't know if I can vote for my current Congress critter.  I think his opponent that I voted for in the primary is the first sensible competition he has faced.

The Fox story said the Denny's manager claimed there was drug paraphanalia in the stall -- sort of a bogus statement to cover himself it would seem.  I guess I pass better than I think as (so far, crossing fingers) I have not been challenged like that in a ladies room.

It sure feels like it could be a two point law suit coming on. One against her and one against Denny's. That is absolute BS that you can't use a restroom.

Plus the fact that she live-streamed the event to Facebook might lead to some legal issues especial live streaming inside a bathroom where there is an expectation of privacy.

Well - Facebook does not think the video violates their community standards. Pretty disappointing.

This woman's actions are so shameful.  Ruining someone's day just to score political points with her socially conservative base is so pitiful.

A transgender woman named Erin Sith (a Trump Supporter) interviewed Jazmina Savvedra after the incident and it went better than I had expected. You can view the interview here: https://www.facebook.com/eesmith4/videos/10103766475599566/

They are both saying you can be transgender as long as you pass.

"I think we need to use the restroom that causes the least amount of problems."

There is nothing wrong with believing that as long as it's not forced onto others. I personally felt that way about myself as that is what I was comfortable with, but I would never force that for someone else.

Later on in the video, Erin did say that every transgender person does it their own way and should be able to. I do think she is skirting that though.

Men, women and tgs are so confrontational with each other in the West. Everyone seems to act in an entitled manner.  In Asia we have a rule of respect and non confrontational attitude. Very much to do with buddhist philosophy to life of " live and let live with respect and do no harm to others". A philosophy that is ingrained in our daily life.

We hold seminars for Thai tgs travelling in Asia and the West.  Thailand rule is simple, of you are in female mode use the female if in male mode use male. It would be unacceptable for a drag queen with a beard to use the female toilet.

In other countries in Asia. If you still have a penis and do not pass as a female then use the mens. Be respectful of other and dont seek to offend them. Most countries in Asia define the use of bathrooms by penis or non penis by law.

We advise those travelling to the West, especially those that have a penis and do NOT pass to not use the female bathrooms and to dress androgenously. Thus, using the male bathroom, when needed,  is non confrontational. The Thais tgs, while accepted by society, are not given female ids. You cannot change your gender on legal documents. Thus travelling to the USA they  could face legal issues, if  they have a problem with someone in the bathroom.
When we first start our journey the perception and moral values all dramatically change in wonderment. As we evolve further it all becomes normal again but the journey has changed us forever.

This is pretty much the operating principle in the USA as well.

There are a small number of extremists who try to force their viewpoint on others, through legislation, the occasional 'potty police' incident such as this politician engaged in, or in a bit of 'street theater' trying to make a point cispeople aren't going to understand.

It gets very silly, until law enforcement shows up.

That is safest.  While unlikely, law enforcement folks could become involved, and in most states that could cause a problem for someone without ID matching their presentation. (California is an exception, and the police are mostly pretty good about it, outside of rural areas.  Some sheriffs are not exactly trans-friendly)

That's fine and every culture is different and must be respected.  I do note, however, that marriage equality is not a guaranteed right in the Thai Kingdom.

Also, since June is Pride Month, I am reflecting and wondering how many rights we take for granted today were not hard won without direct confrontation like Stonewall and groups like Act Up.

You can take that even further and reflect on how many had to die just to get basic civil rights in the 1960s or even the right not to be enslaved in the 19th century.  None of that came about through mutual respect.

There has been turmoil all over the world since the beginning of time, no place is better than anywhere else - Never met anyone who's poo didn't stink

Anyway, let's get back on the topic at hand - "GOP candidate films herself confronting transgender woman using bathroom"
