California is one of 17 states, which passed legislation barring insurance companies from denying coverage and medically necessitated treatments based on gender identity. As such current Evidence of Coverage no longer mentions anything about gender reassignment / confirmation surgery. I know. I checked Blue Shield's Evidence of Coverage yesterday.
I know that GRS/SRS/GCS (whatever) is covered. Marci Bowers and other surgeons mention that directly on their website as do doctors, however does "medically necessitated" mean that insurance companies must cover FFS (facial feminization surgery) too? One can imagine Anthem bickering about "medically necessitated". There are no exclusions but that does not mean covered and reimbursed.
Does anyone have experience in this area?
