Last year in August, a 20-year old girl called Sophie Lancaster was brutally kicked to death simply for being a goth, another community I nominally identify with. Her boyfriend survived the attack, if barely. Not much was made of it in the press - they were just "goth weirdos", after all.

Hate is such a horrible thing.

I came across this tribute video to her, and I just burst into tears, because it sooooooo spoke to my situation as trans as well. Sometimes I feel exactly like the character in the vid.

I know I posted this in the What are you listening to thread as well, but I felt it deserved its own...

I can't say that I identify with the goth community, but I believe that variety makes the world a more interesting place.

The people who don't believe such and get violent about it should be put in a null environment where there is no variety of any type, not even color, sound, texture, taste, smell or shape.  After a certain amount of time, they are allowed the choice of experiencing the environment that they violently dissed or staying in the null environment.

What would they choose?

(I'll have to watch the tribute when I get home.  If tears were a byproduct of the video, I'm VERY vulnerable.)
