I am Pre-HRT right now.I am waiting for HRT appointment because  I already got my letter of referral. My question is this after reading dream come true or time bomb on the wiki page.I have become a little scared of moving forward. My question is this are negative health effects more noticeable in the beginning or is it something that could creep up on me in 30 years? With proper medical monitoring and treatment can I be successful during HRT? The one thing that bothers me is I am 26 and for the most part aside from having a small bit of anxiety and gender dysphoria have been completely healthy my entire life. The only other issue I can think of right now is I am about 280 pounds and have a lot of muscle.
So has anyone ever been similar to me in their own experiences?
What are your opinions, feelings, thoughts on this?

If your properly monitored, the risks with HRT are very low. The primary risk factor is Deep vein thrombosis and we have had a couple of reports from members who experienced them. At 280 I suspect the doctor will request you lose some weigh unless your over 7 feet tall and it will become more important as you lose muscle mass from HRT.

Risk factors very from person to person depending on their genetics and their life style. I would suggest if your nervous about possible risk factor that you discuss this with the doctor providing your treatment. You doctor will be able to give you more accurate information than we can here.

On the other hand, many member including me have been on HRT for years and not had any difficulty because dosages are maintained at a safe level and proper monitoring watches for risk factors.

Thank you.I feel a lot better and you brought up a good idea to write down a list of questions for my doctor.  :)

I spent 1 and a half hours with my Endo on my first appointment.  About 15 minutes going over how everything looked fine for starting and the rest discussing various aspects to HRT on a body, inside and out.  They really are a wealth of knowledge and it is well worth the effort to bend their ear  :)

Coffeedrew,

Do not be overly concerned about your weight. When I started HRT, I weighed more than you. I have lost over 100 pounds by diet and exercise.

The muscle will come off with the estrogens and T Blockers, but it takes several years for this to happen.

If most of your weight is fat, then we have a whole section here at Susan's Place for dieting and weight loss.
