Next week i have a consultation with a relatively new doctor for GRS. This doctor has been doing reconstructive and touch-up related procedures related to GRS for years and has only recently been performing the full GRS.
As such, there are no real posts about visiting him, no post-op photos, no praise/warnings, etc.
I want to be thorough and make sure i get a good sense of this doctor before i make any decisions.
So i guess my question is: What questions should i be asking him? What sort of information should i be looking for?
How do i get a sense of how good this doctor is?

Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated!

How long has he been doing revisions? Revisions are often more difficult than the actual surgery.
Examples of his revision surgeries. They'll have a book, look for aesthetics and scarring
Who did they work with getting certified? They probably have done a few with a fellow senior surgeon
Which GRS procedure do they perform? There are several
Why did they choose that particular method? Pros and cons of each
What type of hair removal do they require? Electrolysis vs Laser
Recovery timeline.
Follow-up schedule
Most likely complications that they foresee.
Do they perform follicle scraping?

A few are "obvious", but you can take away a lot from their response. Like how confident they are, how thorough they are going to be to cover their bases and avoid a poor outcome, and their availability to deal with complications that may arise. Just get a feeling for how well versed they are in the likelihood of a problem.

For myself, I research as much as I can on the surgery itself and see how well the doctors responses are inline with my own take away from my personal research. If we are seeing eye to eye, and I get the sense they actually care about my feeling over turning over clients then I get the warm and fuzzy feeling of confidence in them.
At what point did my life go Looney Tunes? How did it happen? Who's to blame?... Batman, that's who. Batman! It's always been Batman! Ruining my life, spoiling my fun! >:-)

Being relatively new to it, in my opinion, would be a red flag. I don't think I would have ever settled for a doctor who didn't have references. I went to Suporn, who's retiring... However, he has a doctor or two who have been training under him to take over. I don't think I would even go to them unless I'd heard good things. I'm sure you've considered this, but this is permanent...obviously - only certain things can be revised (can't really add depth or sensation)

If you're really serious about wanting to go to this doctor, I would ask:
1. who he trained under, and for how long?
2. References for people he HAS done GRS for.
3. Total number of times he's preformed the surgery.
4. Ask what made him want to get into this type of surgery.
5. Depth to expect

I'd also check your wiretap laws for your state and if it's legal, record your consultation.

*Number of revisions he has done is also important, but aesthetic cleanup of your outsides isn't the same thing as actually grafting a vaginal canal, placing it, making sure there aren't complications, or being able to answer your questions about that to expect regarding a surgery he's barely preformed. This is considered major abdominal surgery, and I'm sure I'm sounding somewhat negative, but I really think you should consider someone who can provide references and reviews, and isn't just getting into this type of surgery.

My partner help me come up with this list of questions to ask. Most of the personal feedback is my own bias; I feel very passionate about not being someone's guinea pig. However, my partner wants me to bring up that all doctors need to start somewhere, and I think that's worth keeping in mind too.

Thank you for all the advice so far! To clarify; this is NOT the only doctor i'm seeing. Ill also be seeing Dr Bella Avanessian sometime in august/september, and to be honest im much more optimistic about her then i am about this doctor. However, this one was suggested by my endocrinologist, they're only a few hours away from me, and i figured it couldn't hurt to check them out. Could be pleasantly surprised, but naturally im wary.
I've also been researching different types of GRS procedures so i can understand/talk about it with them. Doing my best to prepare!
I'll totally be bringing these questions with me though! Thank you so much!
