Being relatively new to it, in my opinion, would be a red flag. I don't think I would have ever settled for a doctor who didn't have references. I went to Suporn, who's retiring... However, he has a doctor or two who have been training under him to take over. I don't think I would even go to them unless I'd heard good things. I'm sure you've considered this, but this is permanent...obviously - only certain things can be revised (can't really add depth or sensation)
If you're really serious about wanting to go to this doctor, I would ask:
1. who he trained under, and for how long?
2. References for people he HAS done GRS for.
3. Total number of times he's preformed the surgery.
4. Ask what made him want to get into this type of surgery.
5. Depth to expect
I'd also check your wiretap laws for your state and if it's legal, record your consultation.
*Number of revisions he has done is also important, but aesthetic cleanup of your outsides isn't the same thing as actually grafting a vaginal canal, placing it, making sure there aren't complications, or being able to answer your questions about that to expect regarding a surgery he's barely preformed. This is considered major abdominal surgery, and I'm sure I'm sounding somewhat negative, but I really think you should consider someone who can provide references and reviews, and isn't just getting into this type of surgery.
My partner help me come up with this list of questions to ask. Most of the personal feedback is my own bias; I feel very passionate about not being someone's guinea pig. However, my partner wants me to bring up that all doctors need to start somewhere, and I think that's worth keeping in mind too.
