Hi All,

I wanted some advice from people who have been through FFS and how you handled electrolysis in the run up to the surgery.

I've found competing advice ranging from stopping 6 weeks before surgery date to stopping 2-3 days before the date. Since 6 weeks is 12 electrolysis sessions, this is a potentially big difference in terms of how aggressively we can remove the hair.

I'd be interested how others have approached this?

Thanks,

Sophie

Hi Sophie,

Each surgeon has a different answer but the range you mentioned sounds correct.  I think mine said a couple weeks in advance, but I wasn't paying attention to that detail because I took care of permanent hair removal before starting HRT or anything else.

I checked and just noticed my FFS surgeon's site mentions electrolysis should be avoided 3 months after FFS.  That's probably specific to each surgeon based on their experience with potential infections and other complications.  I think local hospital rules also impact surgical requirements, so we also see different answers for temporarily stopping Estradiol for surgery.

If you have selected an FFS surgeon their office can provide the accurate answer based on their requirements.

I'm going to facial team as well and I did already ask :)

They want me to stop 6 weeks before and 6 weeks after (despite the website saying 3 months after).

I just wanted to check what others did as 1) it seems very inconsistent between surgeons and 2) 12 weeks is a long time at the moment to go without any follow up facial hair treatments.
