Having long hair as a transmasculine individual sometimes results in hate, but I am completely comfortable in my identity and feel as though it is a huge part of who I am. I decided to make a video about this issue and why it's important. Check it out :)

Long haired cigender guy chiming in. I get crap for my hair and misgendered now and then too. It sort of comes with the territory.

You look like a guy, and I love the message. I personally think trans guys look better without the buzz cut/short hair, but that is my taste. Guys should do what is best for their self image.
If I ever offend you, let me know. It's not what I am about.

I loved your explanation!
I didn't like long hair as a "guy" before transitioning but I'm enjoying growing it out now.

I've heard all the same crap, had people just take for granted that if I was trying to pass, I would cut my hair, etc.  I find that a lot worse than occasionally getting misgendered by people who didn't get a good look at me and made a quick judgment.  interesting how so many of the same people who are so concerned about the length of trans guys' hair don't have anything to say about the cis guys who wear theirs the same.
I understand that for some people, short hair helps them look more masculine just due to their overall appearance.. but a lot of people wrongly assume that the same will be true for everyone.  not everyone can pull off the same looks (at least not for the same effect), and that goes for cis and trans, long hair and short, and pretty much everything else.  long hair has never been something only women have, men with long hair have been present all throughout history across the world.  while certain styles are typically gendered, length is not.  and above all else, do what makes you comfortable regardless.
idk if that was a rant or not lol but that's my thought on it.

also, having short hair actually has the opposite effect on me.  it makes me look younger, thus more feminine.  I had short hair before transitioning and it helped me pass slightly better then, but now that I've been on t for a while i look and feel much better with my hair down.
I'm really jealous of yours, though, wow
