A little story of how funny ignorant people can sound. So I am a CSA at Walgreens an work on the Las Vegas strip. So I am working water and fresh coolers. When I over heard a conversation of my coworker an a chip vendor. Talking about transgender individual useing the restroom. He the vendor was saying how he thought trans people were perverts and the reason why we had such high rates of being raped and sexually assualted was because they use the wrong bathroom. That being useing there gender expression instead of sex. So as I was walking by he turns to me in front of my coworker who knows I am trans and ask me. "How would you feel if a man dressed as a woman followed behind you into a women restroom."  My coworker who look like he was about to die laughing looks at me as I explain that I would not mind at all as long as they were attempting to pass. I then explain tell him. "You know your one ignorant a** by the way. Because you may not have noticed but I In fact have a penis that probably has more sense to you." An at that I turned an walked away with my coworker cracking up. Later he came up and apologize to me the vendor that is. Saying he didn't mean to offend me an trying to say I didn't mean woman like you because you are really pretty and look nothing like a dude. An again I look at him and say see that's your problem and just walked away. From that day forward he is know to me and my coworker as chip prick.

Good for you sweetie. Vegas is a weird place as I was just there last month and got to see first hand. My friend Dee lives there and I visit ever couple of years. It can be a violent place as Dee's daughter had come from Atlanta for a seminar and ended up being raped by three men who followed her to her room. Dee has a transwoman that lives with her parents across the street that got beat up and there was absolutely no news about it. You would think Vegas would be a welcoming place because of all the drag shows. But it's not.  We got to end this one ignorant person at a time. Be vigilant, but be careful. Thanks for sticking up for us.

Well done Rosey! When I read accounts like yours I can't feel but immensely lucky to never have been confronted with such an awful situation and I start wondering how I would react myself... Would I be as brave as you were? People are ignorant. And ignorance is the seed of irrational intolerance. There's still a long way until most people realize how silly their fears are...

Hugs, Sarah

Perhaps this experience will make the chip prick think, and change his opinion.

One hell of a clap back too.

Rosey, you handled that situation with panache!

I live a mostly fear-free life because most people here have the good manners to keep their mouth shut with opinions like that.  If someone had said that to me, the fear would have put me into a meltdown before I could have come up with a snappy answer like yours.

Thank you for defending us.

I love his backpedaling, he basically just said that women who he thinks are ugly shouldn't be allowed to use the women's restroom  ::).

These opinions often have a lot to do with fear and people not knowing what they are talking about. Despite they apparantly always think they do.

How did the man react when you told him about the double standard and walked off? Do you think he reconsidered his opinion? I can't help but think it's better to talk to these people, calmly, show that you understand their fears and take them off of their chests by showing them how trans people really are.
