I'm going to start hormones soon in like 4-6 months, and I wanted to know what are some common side affects.

1) What's my risk of cancer and how can I lower it?

2) Will hormones affect my chest size? Have larger chested men noticed a decrease in size?

3) How soon did your voice drop/facial hair form? I'm an early bloomer, I don't know, if that'll affect how hormones affect me.

4) Is it safe, or possible to pass as a man with an obvious chest?

5) Could I use the proper bathroom, if my hormones were affective?

6) What was your experience like?

From your question 4, I will assume you are going to be taking Testosterone.

Your risk of cancer is not that much greater than any other man. If you are really concerned about cancer, then all the general recommendations are appropriate. Do not smoke tobacco and avoid all unnecessary chemical exposure.

Testosterone will build muscle mass and if you exercise your upper body, you can expect a significant increase in chest size.

Most FTM report physical changes within a few months to a year.

Many FTM need top surgery (breast removal) in order to pass, but this really dependent on your pre-op breast size and your overall shape.

Of course you can. The only problem is during transition, the changes in appearance happen so gradually, it is difficult to give anyone an exact date as to when you will appear male. Many FTM dress androgynous during transition.

I am MTF, which is the opposite of what you are doing, but my experience was full of uncertainty, anxiety and self doubt. I made a plan and worked the plan. I am much happier now.

1) What's my risk of cancer and how can I lower it?
- No one really knows for sure if cancer risk is increased on testosterone or not. But it's not gonna decrease your risk of getting any cancers. However if you are worried or have family history of cancer, I'd recommend getting checked every once in a while. Pap smear is recommended to get even when on T, cause of the risk of it for afab people in general.

2) Will hormones affect my chest size? Have larger chested men noticed a decrease in size?
- It may, but not likely any noticable amount. I was not large-chested but my b-cups stayed the same size on T. I did not get any significant change in fat distribution or muscle mass.

3) How soon did your voice drop/facial hair form? I'm an early bloomer, I don't know, if that'll affect how hormones affect me.
- I don't know either if that could have an affect on it. My voice began dropping almost instantly, was passable at around 6 months, and had reached it's final pitch at 1 year. Facial hair started forming at around 4-5 months but very little at first. I had enough to grow a small goatee and a bit of sideburns at 1 year, but not more. Half of my beard area was growing at 2 years. Could grow a full beard from 4 years on. I'm now at 6 years with no more significant changes for the past 2 years.

4) Is it safe, or possible to pass as a man with an obvious chest?
- If it's safe will depend on the area where you live, if people in general there pick on or attack those who "look different" or if they mostly mind their own business. If it's possible to pass, I'd say it probably would depend on both how good effects you get from T and also your size in general. I think a heavy man might more easily pass with an obvious chest although you may also not, but if you're thin/average... it's gonna stand out a lot, in contrast, and you're not likely gonna pass then.

5) Could I use the proper bathroom, if my hormones were affective?
- Also depending on your area, but in my experience you don't need to pass 100% to use the men's bathroom. Most guys in there don't seem to care. I started using men's bathrooms even before I started taking T, but then I also had an androgynous face and could get a flat chest with binding, so I already passed on occasion back then.

6) What was your experience like?
- I did enjoy being on T and the effects it gave me, until recently. Back then I was impatient to get more changes and expected a bit more than I could get. I was glad that I had great beard genes and got to keep my head hair, I got very satisfied with my voice deepening. The only things that bothered me was the increased acne, excessive sweating and vag atrophy.

I'm detransitioning now however so I'm not gonna continue taking testosterone. I thought it was good for a time but now it's distressing for me. My last shot was by the end of June and I'm meant to take my next one by the end of this month, but I don't want to and I'm not going to. The only thing I still like about my experience on T is my voice, and I don't mind the bottom growth.
