The Bilerico Project

"Did you really have to take away our hope, too? Did you really have to promise to continue excluding us from the American Dream, no matter what we do or how hard we work to promote our equality? Did you really have to tell every gender-variant American that their country not only doesn't care if they're able to share in the same rights and benefits as everyone else, but that their elected lawmakers aren't even going to bother to consider treating them as equals anytime soon?"

Gee.  Someone is assuming that Barney cares.
"Anyone who attempts to play the 'real transsexual' card should be summarily dismissed, as they are merely engaging in name calling rather than serious debate."

Though I'm sure you will get some nice form reply, most congresscritters put the letters from outside their district in a special file - the trash.  Letters to your OWN congresscritter get a different level of treatment.
FIGHT APATHY!, or don't...

It depends on the Congress Critter. Blarney probably does trash them. However, I have had a number of exchanges with political figures on certain issues across the years.  I had thought that most would trash or ignore any letters sent in since most were not within my district or in state and was pleasantly surprised when a few answered or even telephoned.

Well, I (like a good citizen) wrote a letter to my congress-weanie urging support for the ENDA inclusive of transsexual sections.
The congress-weanie in question (Nick Rahall, 3rd district WV) wrote back a nice letter promising to bear my thoughts in mind.
Apparently even though he was thinking specifically of me and my problems, he was one of only 25 Democrats to vote "no".

Check how your rep did:  Roll Call Vote 1057

Barney's just a big stupid purple dinosaur anyway.

Rick Santorum actually answered one of mine two or three years ago which I was surpised about. He wasn't exactly on the cutting-edge of political thought for leftists. I didn't even live in his state. So, ya never know.

Rebecca Juro's letter. I couldn't read it all. I tried, but then gave up. Too much. I know how you guys must feel about some of my posts. *blush*

Try printing it out and reading it while you wait for an appointment or are otherwise semi-occupied.  I think it's worth the effort for the rhetorical devices you can steal for later use.
