Hi. I used to be a closeted Goth for about 19-20 years. I met my fiancé when I was out of the closet, and he/she fell in love with me the way I am. However, now that we're contemplating meeting my dad, he/she talks about being closeted again. For me, I don't want to be in the closet again because my father will grow to get used to a man who is actually a woman, and when she comes out of the closet I'm afraid that he'll tell me that "I will always be a liar" and use my husband/wife as proof that I haven't changed.

I had many such fears before coming out, and I know other people who had such concerns for good reason.

But my advice is don't over-think it.  We can't precisely predict the future and the way each individual responds can be surprising.  The only way to know for certain how something like this turns out is to do it.  Wishing for the good and the best.

It just bugs me because most people see me as someone who tells it straight, and not being able to be honest about a very big part of my engagement life undercuts this character trait.
