wow the comment section was extremely toxic from a group of people who should know better. The alt-right must be laughing all the way when they see us fighting among ourselves. It is how they win.

I am as disgusted by the comments as I am by the nursing staff in the story. A lot of gay people should hang their head in shame... perhaps a dose of electric shock treatment might remind them of when it was them who were at the brunt of prejudice. How quick the bullied become the bullies.

Don't hate the hate... Start spreading the love.

Yeah, never read online comments sections. This is a tragic story, we can only hope that something has been learned in the two years since it transpired.

The old divide and conquer. Works like a charm.

that's why I can trust a tiger any day...all I have to do is to respect and honor him. Now with humans is just...complicated.

This is such a complicated issue. I can understand the misgender and there is no correction for this human error in the english language, at present. The best solution for the future is to drop the gender identification when addressing someone. In Thai there is no gender in adressing someone and its the reply that identifies the individulas gender preference.

I also read the comments, and I find some answers upsetting  and full of hate. It goes very much with with my theme at speaking engagements and media interviews.  Laws will not stop the bias and hate, its the acceptance in the hearts of a society of who we are that will change our acceptance. Agression by us to have laws and to enforce equality, protection etc., will create more hate.Understanding and consideration in our actions and deeds, plus, give it time, there is no quick fix.
When we first start our journey the perception and moral values all dramatically change in wonderment. As we evolve further it all becomes normal again but the journey has changed us forever.

Depends on the circumstances, and the article isn't entirely clear. If it happened by accident, that may be understandable. If it happened on purpose, that's gross negligence.

It's very easy to gender someone correctly if you're aware of how they prefer to be addressed and referred to. You just... do it, right?
