Hiya,

I'm currently 3.5 weeks post stage 1 ALT (leg flap) phalloplasty with Dr. Berli at OHSU.

I am VERY happy :D

Stage 1 was shaft only (I opted out of urethral lengthening). My donor site is on my right thigh and is about 4"x 5" (10 cm x 12.5 cm). It was a pedicled flap, so blood flow to my phallus wasn't interrupted during surgery.

I've been on bed rest since the surgery and have had to keep my dangle from dangling; he has to sit at 90 degrees from my body for around 6 weeks (over half way there!). Luckily, he squishes down like a fat little marshmallow peep when I'm lying down, so it's not too difficult to keep him balanced.

Feel free to ask any questions; I remember looking everywhere for info when I was pre-op, so I'm happy that I'm able to give back!

(Oh, I'm also 2.5 years on T, 1.5 years post top surgery, and 1 year post hyso.)

Congratulations! So happy for you. All these operations time so much patience but I'm glad your dream is coming true. How many surgeries does it take? Oh, my name is Moni, welcome to the site, by the way.

Thank you! It takes 3 surgeries for this one :) Hopefully I'll be all done by this time next year!

I have never looked into how this works, but think it is fascinating. I know how the M to F surgery works roughly. I hope it all works as you expect it to. Take care Wolfie. (You are the second Wolfie I know. lol)

Congrats!

But I have a few questions.  Hopefully, you won't mind answering them.

How long in length will your "dangle" be once the surgeries are done?

Will it be long enough for sexual intercourse?

Do you have a head on it or is it just the shaft right now?

Since you opted out of UL, does it have a hole in it like a cis penis?

Will your bottom growth be buried inside or will it remain outside of your dangle?

Are you opting for a scrotoplasty as well?  If so, what are the options for testicles?  I'm curious about if they use silicon- or normal saline (saltwater)-filled testicles.

Will your testicles be moved from between your legs to sit up front, or will they be between your legs?

Does insurance pay for this, or did yo pay for it out of pocket?  If you paid for this out of pocket, how much was it?

Sorry for all of the questions, but these are things I really would like to know as I weigh my options for bottom surgery.

Heal well, brother!

I numbered them for ease :)

1. It's hard to know size for sure since it changes through healing, but I should be around 5-5.5 inches when all is settled. The size was left up to me, but I told him anything around that I'm happy.

2. Absolutely!

3. Right now it's shaft only; glansplasty will be next surgery. This is to make sure the blood flow is good enough for healing.

4. My surgeon does cosmetic holes at the tip of penises, if you want (which I did), if you opt out of UL.

5. My bottom growth will be buried in my scrotum next surgery.

6. I'm going for a scrotoplasty next surgery; they use the saline filled testicles at this hospital. But those won't be inserted until the 3rd surgery.

7. I'll have a free hanging scrotum, so it'll sit in front of my legs.

8. Very happy to say that insurance covered this :)

Thank you so much for answering my questions!  But now, I have a few more.

9.) If you change your mind, can you get a UL later on down the line?

10.) "Cosmetic hole?" How cool!  But, again, if you change your mind later on, can the UL be run through it?

11.) If your bottom growth is buried in your scrotum, how will you be able to reach it?
I know the head of our bottom growth has 8000 nerve endings in it, twice as many as a cis penis.

12.) Will you be able to reach your bottom growth in order to orgasm once its buried?

13.) Or will you orgasm purely from stimulation of your new penis?

14.) Or will you be able to orgasm from both/either?

15.) When you did your research for these procedures, where did you get your information from?

Again, thank you for answering these questions!  :)

9. If I don't get a vaginectomy, I can get UL later on. I'm actually going to talk to the surgeon about it at my post-op appt.

10. Yep :)

11. So, they do a thing called "degloving", where they take off the outer layer covering most of your growth (or t-d, I'll call it). So, while the skin covering it in the scrotum is thicker, it'll feel similar touching it in the scrotum as on its own.

12. Yes, through the skin. So if I wear, say, a vibrating ball ring, I'll feel it on my t-d like a vibrator feels on it now.

13. Hopefully I'll be able to do this, too :)

14. Usually

15. I went all over the place; I was on Facebook, susans, tumblr, livejournal, etc. I even read published medical papers about the procedures. I had a consult with both a meta and phallo surgeon (at the same hospital), found that I was a fair candidate for meta but it wouldn't give me what I was looking for, so I went with phallo after meeting with that surgeon twice.
The best place for info was facebook. There are so many groups about lower surgery on there that are filled with both pre and post op people. Transbucket is also a wonderful place, as you can find pictures of finished penises, scrotums, everything.

If I can answer anything else, lemme know!
