Alexa's gender

So I asked Alexa (Amazon) if she was transgender, she replied she was "female in character".

As I was male in character before my transition,  and maybe still am in some facets, maybe she's trans*?? Discuss!

AI's are generally based on females (Alexa, Google, Siri, Cortana) as research shows they are more approachable and make people feel more comfortable interacting with them.

The only "male" AI that springs to mind is HAL from the movie 2001, and he... makes a good case for an alternative.

I guess I was conceiving of an AI only in terms of a lurking presence within your home that monitors everything you say and reports back to its superiors.

Needless to say there has been a recent publication from Oxford on AI and gender...

There is no comment on transgender AIs, but some can change their perceived gender...

Now if I was only an AI...
