Estrogen Type After Orchiectomy

I had an orchiectomy a little over two weeks ago. I was wondering what type of estrogen that you find best after having had an orchiectomy (pills, shots, patches)? I'm thinking of going to a patch type, but I've been on estradiol valerate shots. I don't really like the really high to low levels that gives me. If you take the patches, what is the brand, and is it a reasonable price? I plan on asking my doctor to prescribe patches, but I want to come prepared.

A long, and I mean long, while ago, I tried the patches. The problem that I had was that they would not stay on. They sent that expensive. If you try them, best of luck.

If that is the case then you're injecting too much too far apart in time. On another forum they talk about injecting smaller amounts every few days. A much smoother ride.
In fact I'm going to talk to my doctor about going on IM estradiol.

Sounds like way too long between injections.. Let me guess, 10-14 day cycle? A shorter cycle with smaller doses is a much better option.

The highs and lows suck, I have an amount that I am to inject every 7 days, I split that into every 3.5 days and no real lows and the highs are nice. 11 months post GCS

I was on sublingual tablets before my orchiectomy and still am after.   My doctor also left my dose the same, but I think that depends on the person and their levels.

From the replies so far, you can see that there is really no one method that fits all of us. We each have our own preferences and needs and what works for me may not be the best choice for you. This is where an Endocrinologist's or other prescriber's experience is extremely valuable.

Generally speaking, you can think of injections, patches and pellets as somewhat timed release forms of Estradiol, but if the peaks and valleys of your method is too much for you, then the rule is to lower the dose and shorten the interval to get a more steady blood level.

The sublingual method is known for extreme peaks and valleys, but for many of us, myself included, this really presents no problem. It is also worth mentioning that swallowing your tablets whole, does not produce the extreme peaks and valleys, but most of the Estradiol gets metabolized in the liver before it can go anywhere else in the body.

It is good that we have many choices in how we can take our Estradiol.

I'm okay with that, I was never going to pass with this male liver I've been cursed with, anyway!
