Dietlind, the information from your labs is just what I needed. I've been going longer and longer between shampooing mainly to make the color last longer (and using a shampoo for color treated hair); plus I already knew that shampooing does a little damage and makes a little hair fall out every time you use it. I'm up to about a week, but I didn't know if going too long might do more harm than good. It will be hard to go a month, especially since I exercise almost every day. But I'm going to try. I'd imagine most women shampoo every day, especially if they're going to work? Fortunately, I'm self employed and don't really care if it looks scraggley in boy mode. Does anyone know if dry shampoos also strip the hair of oils? Also, I guess it's OK to use conditioner as often as desired (though you must lose some hairs just by massaging the conditioner in and rinsing it out)?
In reality, if you think about the reason why we wash our hair? It is not really that dirty in one week (as long as we don't get it filth through work), it is because he cosmetic industry and clever marketing has told us that beautiful hair has to blow in the wind like angel feathers (or something like this), which means, we have to work hard to get all natural oils out of it! Those oils do not only make our hair kind of stick together, but they also keep the tips sticking nicely to their own fiber strands, which means, we don't have to constantly be cutting off broken pieces of our hair!
Now, if you use the dry shampoo, it is also designed to remove natural oils to give the hair the freshly washed look. And his is done with similar stripping chemicals like the ones, one uses for greasy surfaces. I personally think that dry shampoo might be even worse for our hair than washing it.
I think one can put as much conditioner onto the hair as one wants to, it is just more oil. I don't know why you would want to massage it in, because it just needs to be distributed into you hair, because your scalp will release fat as soon as the washing of it is done.
Oh, by the way, those dermatologist told also told me that washing ones body more than once a week with any kind of soap is also bad for the skin. The daily shower should be done just with water and no soapy stuff.
Our grandparents knew what they ere doing, when taking a bath once a week, whether it was needed or not!
