Dances With Trees

Not to delve too deeply into the macabre, but an old friend of mine recently passed away. For whatever reason and more than 50 years ago, we discussed preferred 'funeral songs.' In a few weeks, I will play (as loud as I can) 'You Can't Always Get What You Want' by the Rolling Stones at a small cemetery at the edge of a small town in western Montana. Personally (in case any of you are taking notes), 'Blue Bayou' (Linda Ronstadt version) is at the top of my after the bucket is kicked list tunes. (I listened to both earlier today on YouTube but have no idea how to post such things).

My favorite instrumental. You may recall it as the theme song from "The Exorcist".

One source says that when Mike Oldfield recorded Tubular Bells in 1973, he was just 19 years old — and he played almost every instrument on the album himself. Another source says that he played more than 20 instruments on the record.

I woke up with a song in my head. I couldn't remember the words or the name of the song.

A search of the internet found it. This song is the only Japanese song to top the Billboard Hot 100. "Ue o Muite Arukō" (上を向いて歩こう), also known as "Sukiyaki". It was performed by Kyu Sakamoto and reached number one in June 1963. (I was 8 years old!) The song's success in the US was a surprise, as it was sung entirely in Japanese.

I would guess that most of our members are too young to have ever heard it. I don't know why it popped into my head, but it is a beautiful song.

All Ozzy all day. Crushed when I heard the news. His music was something that angry teenage me leaned on heavily.

Same here. I grew up with Black Sabbath, then saw his solo shows in Germany. Some of the things he said to the audience showed me that he was the genuine article. He wasn't just doing a show; he was performing for people who loved him, and he said that he would never forget that he owed everything to his fans.

Hi Everyone

I was listening to Spotify on my computer system and I was thinking of adding some of John Denver's Greatest Songs.  I listened to volume I and then I searched for volume II and on the list the last song was "This Old Guitar".  One of my all time favourites as I sang to it while in my car while travelling across Australia to my new life.

Yes, hearing this song brought back so many memories I shed a tear or two.  I had not heard it for about thirty years

Please enjoy as it has given me the peace and contentment in my life.

Best Wishes Always

Hi Everyone

Songs like this "This Old Guitar" and "Have you ever seen the rain" just allow me to pick up my pace in the pool and at the same time to keep me relaxed as the faster you go you have to relax as much as possible as stressing out uses much more energy and hence affects ones swimming.

I use a waterproof (okay water resistant) mp3 player while swimming.

One of my favourite pieces. But then The Exorcist is one of my favourite movies. I preferred the book but the movie was also fantastic.

I also like this version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8Yz4UFS8sg&list=RDJ8Yz4UFS8sg

What have I been listening to? Well... I am not at all convinced "Vampiric" is actually a sub-genre, but I have been getting into Gothic Metal. And this is my go to now when I want something to just put on and soak in, or when I'm doing other things. It's not one song, and is quite long. But it's definitely my jam right now...
