Welcome!

Sorry to hear of your alcohol problems.  I know someone who can't drink any, as he can't stop when he does, so he sticks to non alcoholic beverages, even when going to bars.  They just want your money, and have alternate beverages available.

Hi Datgurl 🙋‍♀️ Welcome to Susan's Place!  I'm Jessica.
Sometimes turning to something that changes our mood can become a problem if you don't address why you need a mood change.  Once starting HRT some have found the relief they've been trying to gain from mood changers like alcohol.

I see you're new here, so I'll post some links that may help you get better acquainted with the site. Pay attention to the site rules they can be of great help and don't forget the link highlighted red.  It has answers to questions that are commonly asked.  Then join in on a topic you find interesting and learn and share.

Hello Datgurl, nice to meet you.  It's wonderful that your "coming out" to everyone is going better than expected.  I've had some similar responses to my recent coming out experiences though I've not had too many so far.  I hope you find what you need in regards to your drinking.  It sounds as though you are looking for change in that area of your life.  Only you can do that but a strong support system is very helpful.  Old habits are hard to change.  As Jessica mentioned, HRT can sometimes relieve some of the gender dysphoria which could be an underlying factor to the drinking pattern you said you're looking to change.  I hope you reach out and find some support.  It's very difficult to beat alone.

Best Wishes,
Susan R🌷

Hi Datgurl

I am an Adelaide girl so yay another Aussie...we need to get some balance around here...the great Aussie invasion maybe...just kidding.

I was a boozer from age 12 which is the first time I got drunk and the last time being 2000. I have been sober ever since. Half the battle is knowing you have an issue and the other half is finding the reason to stop...I ended up with a painful chronic illness because of my drinking...you have to drink a lot to do that and I certainly did. So I found my reason and even tried to come out and transition then however due to circumstances I was asked to wait so I ran away from being trans until the day I decided to either start drinking again or explore transition and the rest is history. I have never been happier and rarely even think about it except a really hot day when the ideas of having a beer sounds really nice. However I usually just have a glass of water and move on, as I said it usually just a fleeting thought.

Abstaining is my only real option now and it made a huge difference in my life...but then so did transitioning.

Take care

Liz
