Short history. I just made my yearly purchase from VS-bras, sleep attire, work out clothes and panties. I dress mostly feminine but on occasion I dress androgynous at best like  when I travel by plane. All the documents are still marked male that are required for travel.
Enough history but one thing I purchased was a pair string bikini panties. No big deal...... right but they had metal loops on each side.  I guess I won't walk thru metal detectors at the airport with these panties on!!
I am owning my womanhood regardless of circumstances 24/7!!! Next step gender markers need to be changed.

The thing

Are you sure you want this?

Did you contact a doctor or psychologist for a consultation?

This is a very serious decision, you need to understand all the risks and read all the warnings.

@Ericalaine
Thanks for sharing your concerns, but I seriously doubt that there is enough metal mass to set off any of the detectors...  if it did you would have a wonderful coming out experience with TSA at the airport.  ;)

In my opinion I do not think it is an issue, again, not enough metal mass I would think.
Enjoy those string bikini panties.... lots of fun for sure.

Thanks for sharing and posting,

Danielle

It's probably not enough to set off a metal doctor however it will be found with a full body scanner. They are sensitive enough to pick up a kleenex in your pocket so you will be subject to a pat down if you wear that. Going through security it's best to leave that in your luggage and wear it after you reach your destination.

Hi Ericalaine

I have an implanted medical device that always sets off the metal detectors at the airport so I always get the "magic wand" treatment. You can guarantee that it can detect the clips on my bras without fail...When I wasn't out fulltime this did not cause any great consternation for the security only for my own paranoia  :)

Take care

Liz

The woman I am becoming is with the help with my doctors both emotional and physical. Kinda didn't think they would be an issue.

I would not wear metal ringed underwear. Why tempt fate.

My solution is to simply wear a sports bra when traveling, as I also choose to present androgynously until I can go full time and officially change my name.

A normal bra with typical clasps won't set off a metal detector at an airport but will be seen by the wand.

The metal on the underwear probably is not enough to trigger the alarm but again will be seen by the wand.

The full body scanner sees *everything*

A "pat down" is not a big deal and tsa folks have seen everything so I wouldn't stress much. The only thing they care about is that you are not carrying anything dangerous to others.

I have done a lot of traveling within and outside the USA.

It started becoming an issue when my passport photograph and what I looked like changed. I spent what felt like 20 minutes one time getting back into the USA one time. I had lost 30 pounds and I looked a lot different. I think I was expressing female but had my male passport. I think I had my hair grafts done and I had hair down to my shoulders (not the graft hair) by then.

One time I was traveling to North Carolina and the TSA agent held my dilators in her hand (had on the blue gloves) and said from about 10 feet away, what are these? I replied my vaginal dilators. I was laughing inside because the look on her face was priceless. It happened at the the Philly airport too but I was face to face with the TSA agent.

I have a navel, ear and nipple piercings and before GCS I had extremely small genitalia that were inside me naturally. So the computer may have seen anomalies in the scans between genders and typical body jewelry. I always was pickled out of line for further review. This was even when I took the Acela train. I would be taken out of line and my hands and bags swabbed.

I may fit some profiles or it may be or was a mismatch of computer expected images or some other issue. I always get properly gendered now but the transition was a very different story.

It is customs and TSA's job to check out what they think is different. The good news is that now I do not get pulled aside but infrequently.
