Hi all

So, i have been hearing more and more about casodex lately. What does this one do? Some girls Call it a miracle body hair removal pill. How much truth is there to that and why body hair removal and some even say permanently!

Also what does this one attack? Spiro seems to slowly tax out your kidneys. Androcur seems to over work the liver and a transgirl reported some nasty upper lung inflammation while on casodex

https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,210339.20.html

So what other nasty side should we expect?

I'm still more up to the no aa approach but this talk I hear about permanent body hair removal or reduction has gotten my attention. I still prefer high enough e level to "naturally" shut down t production by reducing lh and fsh levels which are what actually make the testis create t. No lh and fsh no t. . less meds less sides. Also higher e produces higher prolactin and prolactin also reduces LH and FSH so it's like a double whammy. Also it produces more shbg and shbg has an affinity for t binding. Heck even bio identical p reduces LH and FSH and it's all bio identical stuff.

I do use dutasteride but with some rare reports saying it could give you a fatty liver I am thinking on dropping it but I can't seem to find a lot of reports on it

Casodex (bicalutamide) works as an anti androgen as a  selective antagonist of the androgen receptor site. It does not reduce Testosterone levels. It just makes no room for Testosterone at the place where T works it's magic, therefore T and DHT are rendered ineffective. Because of the complex nature of our bodies hormone regulating system, some men even find an increase in their T blood levels. This increase in T has no effect.

The main side effects are breast enlargement and tenderness, muscle weakness, decrease in libido and erectile function and a decrease in liver function. Most of these side effects are to be expected and welcomed if that is part of your overall goal. The decrease in liver function only effects 3.5% of users as compared to about 2% for placebo.

There are other side effects, but they are all listed at less then 1% of users experiencing these side effects. Anything less than 1% is considered a possible but not likely side effect.

If anyone is going to take bicalutamide, they need to have their liver functions tested regularly and stop the bicalutamide at the first sign of liver damage. Bicalutamide is not a miracle drug. It has risks and benefits. For many of us with MTF dysphoria, the benefits far outweigh the risks, but this drug needs to be carefully monitored by your doctor.

As a final comment, once the major source of Testosterone is removed, there is no need to continue bicalutamide. The same can be said once you are on Estradiol for about a year or so when your T levels naturally drop.

There's a lot of stem cell research being done on differing types of hair follicles, their respective growth cycles and the effects antigens, or lack thereof, have upon them but still much that is unknown. Why does head hair behave differently than whisker, facial and terminal body hair yet another way is anybody's guess!

Search "hair follicle cycles" and if ya can figure it out let us know!
"But it's no use now," thought poor Alice, "to pretend be two people!
"Why, there's hardly enough of me left to make one respectable person!"

Bica? Body hair removal? Nope. That's not something it's able to do. Estrogen is the body hair killer.

It's about as bad for your liver as Androcur is. It's also possible for it to cause unexpected drug interactions due to protein binding.

If your T level is suppressed to female levels, there is zero point in taking a GnRH analog like this, it will be of zero benefit.

Since i can not take spiro, I started with Bica right out of the gate 3 months ago.  So far so good.  First liver test after one month are perfectly fine.  T levels have increased as expected.  Will have second test at the 5 month mark in April.  There seems to be so much disinformation regarding this drug with HRT.  I expect it to someday take over spiro in usage.  The learning curve for doctors is what I believe is why they are holding back.

More doctors are heading towards an estradiol-only regimen and avoiding AA's where possible. The hang up is mostly related to the thromboembolitic risks, which are not as presented - and recent research has shown that risk in trans women is not the same as cis women, who have the higher risk.

A small percentage of users will show elevated liver enzymes and liver failure is quite rare. At lower doses, it's considered to be well-tolerated as per a recent study/article on transgender treatment. :)
I am not a medical doctor, nor a scientist - opinions expressed by me on the subject of HRT are merely based on my own review of some of the scientific literature over the last decade or so, on anecdotal evidence from women in various discussion forums that I have come across, and my personal experience

On HRT since early 2004
Post-op since late 2005
