I a 63 year old male to female transgendered person. I was on this site many years ago when I thought that my gender identity was some sexual perversion. Wow, how things have changed. I have been on hormone replacement therapy for over three years now and am currently having electrolysis once a month. I keep questioning myself about what the hell am doing, at my age, I should be secure in my masculinity. So here I am at this, still wonderful, web site. As I read some of the other post it becomes evident that I am not alone. This truly is a big comfort and I intend to take advantage of it. Thank you all for being so very brave in being who you truly are, Stephanie

Hi Stephanie, why would you think that you are secure in your masculinity, only you are a few years older than some other transgender persons?
Let me tell you, compared to me you are still a young person, and I was much older than you when I transitioned.  My therapist feels the the only gender I am secure in, is my femininity.  All those years I tried to be a man did nothing to make me feel secure in the male gender!

Stephanie - Your past feelings of thinking it was a sexual perversion are common.  I have read bunches of theories and explanations that I will not go into here.  But trust me it is very common among transgender people to confuse - conflate - and blend their gender orientation and their sexual desire.  The lines blur and it is very common.  There are dozens of sites around the internet both pornographic and tame fantasy that demonstrate how common it is.

I am glad that you are getting a handle on accepting the real you.  I am only a few years younger than you and I fully transitioned at 56.  I wish I did it at 26 but better late than NEVER.  Many people never come to terms with it.  At least we did.

Thank you Kimoct and tgirlamg for you wonderful replies. Kim, your quote is so spot on "The first transphobe you have to conquer is yourself". I think I will roll around on that for a bit. Tgirlamg, " lifetime of hiding" isn't that the truth. I sure got good at it but in the end it wasn't real and true authenticity is what I truly desire, I know it now. Its time to look for facial surgery in the San Francisco area. I must go forward and I am hoping that I find some good advice on this site. Wish me luck.

Good Morning Stephanie!!!

I did my facial surgeries in San Francisco with Dr Deschamps-Brady who took over the practice for Dr Ousterhout ( the pioneer of FFS ) and Dr O was also involved during my procedures.... Dr Ousterhout's FFS book is a great place to start researching procedures

Here are some before and afters

If you are in SF, i am just a bit south in the Monterey Bay Area... Please don't hesitate to let me know if I could be of help along the way... Transition is a path best walked with friends at your side and you are amongst them here!

After a lifetime of hiding you will be amazed how deeply you have buried little pieces of the puzzle that makes up you... putting them together and finally seeing yourself and your place in the world is an experience not to be missed...

Amazing things await!

Onward we go brave sister!!!

Good Morning Sister!!!

Looks like auto correct gave me "Brady"... it should be Dr Deschamps-Braly...

Thanks for the kind words and I am happy to help in any ways I can!!! Have a great time at the therapist... I suspect from your words that there is a sense of exitment in the air as you begin to feel...more and more... that a life that reflects your truth has been waiting patiently...and the time to claim it is now at hand...

Onward we go brave sister!!!

Hi Stephanie, welcome to Susan's Place. It is never too late to accept yourself. I came to accept myself at 54 and although this experience is very recent for me, only 3 months since I came out, I have found happiness and calm that I haven't experienced in decades. Welcome back to this forum, there are many wonderful friends here.

Hugs Zoey
