How men treat women

I have yet to experience buying a car or seeing a mechanic as female, but when I do, at least I am armed with extensive technical knowledge.  I took an automotive course (back when I was in denial) and have been doing my own repairs for the last couple years (which is one reason, I haven't seen a mechanic).  So, I will be able to ask them questions they can't answer if required.

I will say that I have been treated differently at the Lube shop.  Since I was "only" a woman, they didn't feel it was necessary to tell me why I needed a new gas filter, they just told me I "should" do it.  It was kind of funny how they thought I wouldn't know the difference.

A Gas filter should be replaced as a certain number of miles.  The procedure is generally pretty simple, especially for an inline filter.  Last year, I replaced one on my stalling Van in an effort to fix it.  It turned out to be a bad crankshaft position sensor.  The funny thing is, years ago when my parent's owned it, they had the same problem and took it to several mechanics before they found one who could correctly fix it.  At least I know what to replace the next time it happens.

I know that too Melissa.  As a high school student I was Forced to take auto shop (I tried to get into Home Economics, but the school refused).  I learned how to rebuild an engine, a transmission, etc.

I took Home Ec in Junior High and loved it.  It was also nice to be able to eat you cooking creations.  If my Home Ec teacher could see me now.

In my country customers are first specially the one like you, who pay with money.

Can't imagine that in our car salons, was three times when my sister buying cars, she and salesman talking and he complitely showing the possibility and comfort of the car, he make all papers ready with her and I was watching that time other cars around ... after they signs papers she just called me and we go home with new car,so practicaly she's buying the car alone, and nobody called her love,also if she wanted to know something, the salesman answer to her on every question ...

Thats true, but it depends on the tone and body language, he was making the the point to me that I was a stupid woman and could not possibly understand so I should stick to the colour choice.

It doesn't help that so many movies/tv shows, show women as dumb and unintelligent and center whole shows around a women with big boobs but has no acting talent to speak of just to get the male audience completely ignoring IMO the women who might watch (example Stacked staring Pam Anderson). GRRR! Sorry had to say that it just pisses me off so much!

Anyway, a friend and I where discussing this a few days ago. We both agree that for the men that will take it seriously, they will most likely change how they treat women when it comes to stuff like cars and everything. The question remains how many men would actually take it seriously? I think it would be worth having all the men be women for a week or maybe even a month at schools/jobs if just one man takes it seriously and realizes how hard it is to be a women and changes the way he treats women.

Same here, I was able to take it then and was only forced to take shop class for one semester. I absoultly love Home Ec and just couldn't not stand shop! None of my male friends understood why I didn't like shop, but loved Home Ec. And to be honest at the time I didn't really understand it either I just knew I hated shop class but loved Home Ec!

I think that in areas that are technical the guys feel they have an edge over us girls, yes they tend to like that stuff and treat it as our own domain.

What really offended me was the fact I was a well dress business woman looking to buy a product from them, yet the salesman still treated me like I had no brain.

If all guys had to be in ours shoes I sure more of them would change.

Was going to let this go, but I see it got quoted again. I suspect if I posted something like this about women, everyone would be quite justifiably jumping down my throat. Not that I would, but it seems ok to male-bash in some quarters. That's probably why we don't keep a significant FtM population here.

Calling someone "Love" is not a good idea unless you know them well and circumstances warrant (and even then is not a good idea, its overfamiliar).  Otherwise its condesending - in a commercial situation - calling someone love is patronising at the very least.
And, in a commercial situation - if a salesman or mechanic etc. adopts a patronising attitude, why get upset?  They are truely leading with their chin, so easy to get themselves fired, lose your business. The customer has so much power.

I've noticed this lately ... I was lazy and let my prescriptions run out before getting more ... the last three days I've been off the pill, slowly allowing my femininity to waste away like a crisp, sharp colorful image slowly fading and blurring ... the exact words I used for a friend were:  "sorry, I've been off the pill for a couple days, so I'm feeling kinda male-ish and stupid right now."
